$1600 for a Gold Cup Trophy? I picked on up last month for under $1200.

What model TRP did they have for $1649?
The SA loaded is fine for the money. I've had one since 2009. There's nothing magic about an NM frame -- likely you won't find an NM right now anyway. Someday, and it looks like it won't be soon, I'd like to move up to a high end 1911 (story for another thread and day.)

Why are the Kimber's not in contention here -- don't they make a good 1911 in the $1000 price range?
They do, but their models are more expensive than their competitor's comparable models, while their customer service is not even comparable.

Again, just an opinion of mine.

The SS TRP. PC9107LP. Prices have gone up locally. He could have gotten it for less 2 weeks ago when Discount Shooter Supplies had one for $1450 but he was being undecisive at the time and it got sold. He actually got it for $1619. I picked mine up last week for $1469 and also got a free box of ammo.

I would prefer a 1911 with a rail, but it's ok if there isn't one. any thoughts?? all the help is appreciated
I've seen people praise both and I've seen just the opposite as well. There is an active thread now on Sig 1911 fit/finish and you'll see the same thing for SA every once in a while as well, especially the debate over N and NM SN's.

If you're picky on fit and finish (tight fit, alignment, tool marks, etc.) make sure you look at either model BEFORE purchasing it. Once it's yours, the excellent warranty from either mfg. is about functionality, not looks. Something actually has to be wrong with the gun for a repair. Your specs are not the same as the mfg when it comes to acceptable tolerances and such.

You really can't go wrong with either IMO. Buy one, save up and buy the other. Then sell the one you like less at either break even or small trial fee (the difference of your cost vs. what you actually sell it for).

According to RyanAnchors, SA's is better than that. Don't imagine Sig would have taken care of pitting.

IMHO, all things being equal between the Sig and the SA, I would opt for the SA based solely on their reputation for customer service and top notch warranty work.

I am about the buy a 1911 soon. Still saving up some more pennies (ok, ALOT of pennies!) for either a Loaded or a Sig Sauer Nitron or Stainless. They both felt practically identical in the hand.

Hearing about the short supply of SA's out in the market, kind of wish I had taken the Loaded in SS.

In any event, I'm sure you will be happy with either. Make a choice and enjoy the crap out of it!

Sorry for the newbie question, but what is the difference between Series 70 and 80?

They are originally Colt 1911 terms but in a nutshell a series 70 style 1911 has no firing pin safety whereas a series 80 has one.

Oh! O.K. Thank you. I remember reading about the firing pin safety a while back, but never really put it together now.

                        THANKS!

I know they're something of a "budget model", but any comments on the Rock Island 1911s? The price is very attractive...

Phillipine made, cast frame, series 70, heard nothing but good things about them. Ya it may be a little rough around the edges but they're a great value for your money. As a matter of fact, i'm literally about to head out my door to buy one right now.

Re: the RIA I tried one in the store vs. the SA Loaded, a Sig Nitron non-railed and a Kimber. To my uneducated hands, it was a 1911. The short trigger didn't feel as nice and no white dots on the sights.

I steered clear of it only because I like a longer trigger, need some sort of sights and also like the feel of the larger/higher beavertail. Since this will be my first 1911, I want one that I won't have to mess with. I don't want to buy something and immediately send out for triggers, sights etc.

My philosophy is buy once, cry once.

I did swap out the MSH, the FP and the guide rod. Also the disconnector with a NightHawk barstock -- came pre-polished and dropped in without needing any fitting.
