    Which 1911?

Hello, I am looking for a 1911 in the $1000 range for informal target shooting and plinking and that could also be used for home defense. I am considering Sig 1911s and the Springfield loaded. If I could talk the salesman down MAYBE even the TRP , although unlikely. I would prefer a 1911 with a rail, but it's ok if there isn't one. any thoughts?? all the help is appreciated

I think you'd be happy with both....but I would pick the SA Loaded, preferably an NM framed one. Though if you can get a TRP then go with that!

I don't have personal experience with the Sig but I have owned an NM Loaded before and liked it a lot. For one thing I prefer the traditional styling of the SA over the Sig and the Sig is probably not a series 70 design either which is not something I'm usually fond of.

Buy the SIG, you obviously have a bias in this matter.

The Sig is just as good as the Springer and visa versa.

I didn't mean to sound bias, I was just asking what the SA offers that the sig doesn't and vice versa. Again I wasn't trying to be bias even though my name is Sig Sauer 9mm

And I didn't mean to sound like an *******. But your name kind of gives it away

If you want a Sig 1911 buy one, most that do are not disappointed (myself included)

You can't go wrong with either, IMO.

IMO, if can get a TRP for $1000, then you either stuck gold where the seller just wanted to get rid of their gun and take a loss, or there's something wrong with the gun that you'll need to address.

There are a few guns to choose from, but if you're stuck on a set $1000 limit, then you may be missing out on some good 1911's that sell for $100-$200 more.

What would the extra couple hundred bucks entail?

They're both good guns. Sig 1911s are great for the money, but I am partial to Springfields.

Either way, you can't go wrong.

It is worth noting that Sigs use external extractors and have a blockier "Sig like" slide, so they're not as "traditional" as other 1911s (not like my TRP is traditional at all either), but it may make it harder to find a holster sometimes as it won't fit all standard 1911 holsters.

Also worth noting that Springfield has arguably the best customer service in the industry. I've dealt with a lot of companies and they're the best whether you're a customer or FFL.

They refinished a 1911 GI for free that had surface pitting that I bought off a guy, no questions asked. Paid shipping both ways. It only took three weeks.

The SA loaded is fine for the money. I've had one since 2009. There's nothing magic about an NM frame -- likely you won't find an NM right now anyway. Someday, and it looks like it won't be soon, I'd like to move up to a high end 1911 (story for another thread and day.)

Why are the Kimber's not in contention here -- don't they make a good 1911 in the $1000 price range?
