    "high capacity" mags

This might be a dumb question but I just want to make sure I got it right lol. I have 2 dissasmbled 17 round mags for my SR9c that have been sitting in my closet forever. I want to try them out to function test them but as far as I know assembling them is a felony. Another buddy said that only applys to 'assault rifles" can anyone shed light on this? Should I leave them be or what?

P.S. I read the thread on mags but didn't quite get it so I just wanted to be sure thanks guys.

10 round limit applies to all magazines.

    Except rimfire tube mags.

I thought you assembled them over three years ago?

      Jk, for the record.

It's any mag, not just rifle mags. If you were to put it together now, make sure it's blocked to 10 rounds.

You can take them out of state

or ask a LEO friend if you have one to assemble them, check if they work, then disassemble them and give them back to you. Its hard fighting the extended magazine charge if the first year your gun was made was 2007.

im sure you owned it before the ban, and you dissembled them to clean, and never got around to finish cleaning. therefore putting them back together now is ok.

What would have answered your question?

            It says
            6. Yes, you can buy part kits to repair your existing magazines - but you cannot assemble them into complete "large-capacity magazines" inside CA - that would be manufacturing and that can be charged as a felony.
The first post in that thread has all the information; it's had a very few edits/additions based on questions asked in the thread.

Since there's no law that prohibits possession or use of ANY magazine, regardless of the manufacture date, exactly what would he be charged with, importing, manufacturing, or offering them for sale?

As far as I'm concerned, he found 2 SR9 magazines at the local range, but since he's under no legal obligation to explain how he came to possess the magazines, he'd be volunteering too much information.

Take them out of state where it's legal to own. Assemble and test them there. Disassemble and come back to CA.
RIP Louis Awerbuck. I miss you and your training.

There was a recent post about some people being charged with extended magazine possession and other assualt rifle charges but I have yet to see one for just magazine possession.

I shoot at Angeles Range, which is constantly crawling with on and off duty LE, but it never stopped me from firing off 19 consecutive rounds when I briefly owned an XDM. Knowing that possession and use are not crimes, I never gave it a second thought, nor did I ever worry about being confronted, and the same applies to my AR.

New gun, new magazines, but how could anyone prove that they weren't already assembled when I received them? You have to consider that the only time your magazines are going to come into question is if they're used during the commission of a crime, and I've never heard of anyone being hassled at a range for use of magazine that exceeds 10 rounds.

And for the record, they aren't high-capacity magazines. Based on ridiculous California law, we've been conditioned to say and think that, but a 17-round magazine is in fact a standard capacity magazine.

This has me thinking....If possession itself is all but a crime, if you simply out a rebuild kit together and just start using it, will they be able to successfully prosecute you? Assuming you never talk to them when they start asking you questions about it of course

Unless you tell LE that you put together, assembled, or manufactured a magazine, they'd have no opportunity to prosecute you simply because they could not arrest you to begin with. Under what Penal Code?

Before someone chimes in and suggests that LE will go into your account statement and trace the purchase of a rebuild kit, unless you're buying serialized rebuilds, you have nothing to worry about. Of course, since serialized magazines do not exist, how can they prove that the rebuild kit you purchased is now the assembled magazine that you're in possession of?
