Kimber v Sig...again

i dont get the people that buy their guns for the warranty, if that were the case we would all be driving hyundais cus they have the best warranty

Any intelligent purchaser should take warranty into account. It just speaks about a company who is willing to stand behind their product. Lol at a company that won't see it until you "break it in"... No thx

Decided on the Kimber custom TLE 2.

I do thank everyone for their input. It is hard to weed out the pure opinion and facts. It's a lot like asking who makes the best truck or car. Wise people will usually ask,"What do you plan on using it for?" before giving a opinion. Others jump straight into throwing out names.

From personal research, it was basically a tie. I just happen to go with the one I most liked at that moment. As a side note, the mag it come with kinda sucked, so I purchased two Wilson Combat mags.

I will give a range report as soon as she's broken out of jail.

ok i still stand by my point, warranty is good and all, but it aint gonna make or break my decision to buy what i want...its simply just the cherry on top...its a joke to buy anything because of its "warranty" then more people would own and endorse Hi Point, they have THE best customer service and warranty around period hands down...move on

I agree with this post.

Warranties are in general, for those who don't take care of their products or are a selling feature. I used to install car alarms. One on the manufactures had a lifetime warranty. It was a selling point. on average, people don't keep their cars long enough to have an alarm wear out, or fail, so it was a warranty that was calculated risk to sell more.

Think about this. Do people buy BMWs, Mercedes, or Ferrari because they last longer? Because they never break down? No people buy them for the experience, the fit and finish, the bragging rights. I don't think I ever met a person that sat in a Hyundai and said this feels like a well built solid vehicle. Usually it's more like, it was the best car a could afford, or it was the most practical.

Partly why I didn't want to spend more than a $1000.00 on a 1911...yet.
At that point it would be the bragging rights, or because I become more accurate than my weapon. My M&P40 is capable of shooting tighter groupings than me. For now it's trigger work and reflex control. Once I'm confidant in that, or I decide I need a gun so beautiful, I would never carry it for fear of it getting scratched then I'll get an Infinity or something.

Congrats on your purchase but know that Kimber uses a carbon steel barrel instead on stainless which gets rusted easier. Pretty much the main reason I don't want a Kimber. Keep it oiled and you"ll be fine.

My kimber came rusted, had to use flitz to get it off and an abrasive pad. Not sure if they come dry from the factory, or if they just sit in the case for too long...but it happens a lot. Unfortunately I bought it online, so I couldnt inspect it. Kimber isnt all crap though, you just have to inspect it first to make sure. They produce over 70k guns a year, so with the volume they have let the QC slip.

And isn't Sig now having documented quality control, external extractor & customer service issues but Kimber is making a come back?
This guy seems to have a documented track record of train wrecks!
Now this may be a coincidence but I doubt it and before someone turns the flame gun on me I have several Sig's, the newer ones (an X5 & a 220) have both had to go back to the factory and I am also a current Sig armorer so I'm not not just casting unsubstantiated FUD.
It's really sad actually, I love the older Sig's and I really like my newer ones, but the pursuit of a better bottom line appears to have really hurt (is hurting) their reputation.
Just a thought to help you on your decision making process.

Bottom line, unless we have the inside scoop from anybody, it is also not fair to Mr. Cohen since we just don't know what he really did.

In Kimber's case, Kimber has reverted back to the internal extractor type way back around 2005 and I for one, have not seen the EE type for the last 3-4 years I had been hanging out at several LGS in California and Nevada.

Additionally, on those Kimber customers that had issues with models with EE, Kimber has replaced those slides with the internal type free of charge irregardless of when it was bought no questions asked.

Now, those are FACTS that should throw negative aspersions on the argument that Kimber ONLY warrants their guns for one year.

As to Kimber " making a comeback ", I think Kimber DID COMEBACK. I am keen in observing most 1911s fit, finish, etc. and Kimber is very consistent in its quality construction nowadays.

That's (good) news to me!
I have a Raptor II with the external extractor that I bought used. No idea how old it is or how many rounds went through it. I have run about 700 rounds through it since I bought it, and I haven't had any FTE's or FTF's at all. I can only remember one single misfire- there was a dent in the primer, but no bang. I dropped that round back in the chamber and it worked the second time.

Even though I have never had a problem, its nice to know that Kimber will take care of it if I ever start having issues.

Good Choice, I bought my first 1911 today which was the Kimber TLE II. I was sold on the Sig 1911 but after handling both. The Kimber overall just felt better in my hands. From the sights,front strap checkering, and fit/finish was just fantastic. I am extremely excited and can't wait til she is out of jail!


My next goal for 1911's: Les Baer TRS or Concept II, Springfield Operator to match my M1A heh.

Sweet choice.

One day I want to build a replica of the "Company gun" from the TV series Heroes. They were build by Strayer Voigt - Infinity. Way down the road for one that nice. Especially since Cal laws make it hard to get a compensated barrel.
