    Kimber v Sig...again

I have found Kimber v Sig threads, but they are all old.

I'm looking to get either a Kimber Custom II, or a Sig 1911-45-BSS. Very different styles of 1911. Extended guide rod, external extractor, etc.

I'm not looking to spend the money on a Les Bear, so please no comments like "neither" or "get a blank instead".

Just what are the benefits and drawbacks of each.

    Thanks

Shot a Kimber Custom II and fondled the Sig... just off of fondling and dry firing, I think I would have left the store with the Sig. I'll post again if/when I rent the Sig and put some rounds thru it. The trigger, sights, and grip were just perfect.

Handle them both and see what you like the feel of better. Either will shoot better than 3" group at 25 yards.

I would recommend the Kimber. These have great customer service and are very easy to resale if you do not like them.

Sig has too many 1911 models and sketchy initial quality. The customer service is hit or miss. Also the squared off slides of the Sig make getting a holster harder.

Keep in mind that whichever you get will take standard 1911 parts so either can be modified. Also, if you actually shoot the gun it will most likely get holster wear, scratches and probably the "idiot scratch".

I have a Sig Revolution 1911 non-railed stainless that has it's use "wear". I think that I would be doing good to get $700 for it used/as is. If this was a similar condition Kimber, the resale value would be higher.

I prefer the ergonomics of the Kimber Custom II. Plus, I am not a fan of the external extractors in a 1911 and instead, prefer the traditional type.

I would choose the Sig, but I am bias. Go shoot them both and choose.

          Good luck.

I have both, but I haven't shot the Sig yet. I can tell you that my Kimber feels & shoots great and I've never had a problem with it.

i have plenty of friends that want a 1911, 5-6 of us got a Kimber, 2 has a Colt, 2 has RIA and only 1 has a Sig...in my group the census tends to favor the Kimber...ymmv

traditional or not, bottom line is which one you can shoot better and is MORE reliable...dont get caught up in the little options and distractions...my .02

good warranty is great, but not having to send in a defective pistol is even better

Sig. Solid performer. Too many horror stories about Kimbers to ever want one. I've had a half dozen friends invest serious time with the gunsmith to get the Kimbers to work right. That, and the local Sheriff's Office that equips their Deputies with Kimbers have had to totally strip them down and seriously work them over to get them to function correctly. They should work 100% right out of the box. That's why I bought a Sig 1911, and keep it on my permit. It's absolutely 100% reliable and a sweet package. Just my $.02

Got to love all the Kimber "horror" stories out there. They crack me up. Like how a whole department had to get theirs re-done by a gunsmith to work right. I'm sure departments have extra cash to do that.

With that said, Kimber has my vote. My Custom II has been great out the box and shoots steel cased ammo 100% of the time.

On the other hand, I do like the Sigs, just not the external extractor. Now if you could only get a Ruger SR1911, that would be sweet!

I had a chance to do a side by side with the SA, Kimber, and Sig.

I liked the Sig 1911 the most, and thats what I ended up getting for my first 1911.

The Sig just felt like a better pistol, and the trigger was the selling point for me, It felt better.

You should really get your hands on both and see for youself.

                      For a 1911 get a kimber. Get a sig 220 for an alternate .45.

Kimber has my vote as well, My Cusyom II was a fantastic entry 1911. Kinda wish I never sold it. You can always SSE a Ruger.....

I have a Kimber Target Stainless II, and a Sig Nitro Rail. I have about 2500 through the Kimber, and 1000 through the Sig. No problems with either. I personally favor the Kimber, I shoot a liltle more accurately with it, but I think that is due to the sights on it. Either gun you get, you will be happy with either, both are excellent 1911. Don't believe so much of the Kimber horror stories. I found out for myself, and I love my Kimber. As a matter a fact, two friends have shot my Kimber and have bought Kimber's themselves. None have had any issues. Both bought Custom II

1 for the kimber, no problems with more than 1000 rounds through it

Do not forget that SIG has a better warranty then KIMBER. I think kimbers is 1 year and sig is lifetime...that makes a big difference.
