You might be happier with a 9mm 1911. The main complaint I have with the Hi-Power is the heavy single stage trigger. It seems many people share this sentiment. It takes some getting used to. We are talking like 10 pounds or so of pull weight. I've read that some people disable their magazine safety to improve the trigger but I have not shot or held an example with that modification. Being a steel frame full size pistol in 9mm it does shoot softly though. Which is why I think you could get the same or better enjoyment out of a 1911 in 9mm.

Trigger pull / weight on mine isn't that bad, but not nearly as good as my 1911's. The magazine disconnect is definitely an annoyance. Hammer bite starts to get noticeable after 200 rounds. Sights are usable. Now the good stuff. It fits my hand like a glove. Well balanced, accurate, reliable, 115gr, 124gr, 147gr FMJ ball, and Federal HST 147gr SJHP all feed, fire, eject with no issues. The slim profile makes if very comfortable for IWB, CCW.

I love mine and only just recently sold one of the three I had because it was the newest and I got my asking price. Prices certainly have shot up in the past few years. I've been keeping an eye out for a SA-35 at a reasonable price but no luck thus far.

I've owned a 70s vintage, two Mk3s, an FEG with bogus FN markings, and two Argentines, one a military and one commercial. I gave one of the Mk3s to my son, still have the other and the civilian Argentine. Great shooters! I also have a Ceiner .22 kit.

I only have one at the present time, a 1969 vintage C series. If I was the OP, instead of worrying about what is currently on the Commiefornia roster, I'd find a used one and go with that. My 56 year old HP still shoots fine even though it has been well-used.

I currently have two Browning Hi Power pistols---has several over the years---the two I have are a standard 1978 polished blue, fixed sights pistol I bought used but mint and I carried this pistol thru my many years managing gun stores as well as the Rodney King Riots---it was stock except the feed ramp was polished and magazine disconnect was removed by the old Kings Gun Works in Glendale---shoots directly to point of aim with it's tiny old style sights and seemingly never jams...
My other Hi Power is a much newer production FN labeled (NOT Browning) pistol with the factory SFS trigger system, and thus very rare as it is my understanding that only about a thousand were imported into the USA just one time---better three-dot sights, feeds anything I've tried, +P rated, matte finish, etc, etc... Also shoots to point of aim...
I typically carry them in a prototype "Avenger" style leather holster given to me by my late friend, Gordon Davis (RIP)...

The Girsan one is not bad for the money. However, if you're willing to do some leg work, try to get a Belgium FN one(not the newest FN versions). I used to have one of the Belgium ones and very much regret selling it.

I got one of the Isreali surplus guns. Once I stripped off the beat up epoxy finish, refinished it, and replaced the barrel, it is a decent barrel. It’s a Mk II, with a Mk III slide.
