Browning Highpower ?

I have heard a lot of people praising the Highpower over the years.
I finally got to shoot one. Fell in love with it.

Are there any on the Roster?

I didn't know Browning was making them. I've heard that Girsan was making a knock off, hadn't heard of any reviews though.

As far as I know Browning does not make them anymore, hopefully they will bring them back at some point. There are like stated copies but don’t know if any are on the roster, my guess would be no.

Your best bet will probably be in the pre-owned market, research it and see what’s a far price for what you want. There is a lot of good with the Hi Power and some bad too, hammer bite with some and trigger with all. You can make the trigger much better by removing the mag disconnect but you still won’t have a tactile reset and for me the trigger blade is way too thin. There are probably some wider aftermarket triggers that could fix that.

I bought mine in a pawn shop used in 2009 for $560, I don’t shoot her often but besides the trigger it’s a really nice shooting handgun never an issue. I know I’ll never sell it.

I bought a recent SA-35 here in Reno. Great shooter. I recommend one.
Even the vintage models are considered desirable to own and shoot.

If C&R you can buy anyone of the pre 1974 production dated handguns from any FFL even from Gunbroker, if the FFL is willing to ship to California. Does not need to be on roster.

F N stopped making the Hi Power in 2015 I believe. F N did reintroduce a new rendition of it recently. You can go the C&R route if you want an original. There are the clones out there, current production. I don't know if any are on the roster though. There is the secondary market in CA, you can PPT an original or clone. Originals come up for sale here on CalGuns from time to time.

The Hi-Power is the only 'hi capacity' 9mm that seems to just fit my hand and always has. It's also similar enough to a 1911 that it just seems to work right.

I picked up mine I don't know how many years ago. I don't shoot it all that often; but, when it do, it simply shoots the way it should. The magazine disconnect is a bit troublesome, yet I can't bring myself to modify it at this point.

I've looked for another one. The problem is that since Browning discontinued production, the prices have gone through the roof by comparison; i.e., anywhere from around $1,250 - $2,700 locally. It's a little difficult for me to justify that these days.

As a 'collector,' I'd go Browning all the way. As a 'shooter' or for 'carry,' I'd even be open to looking at - Century Arms 1911 and Hi-Power - Wish They Were On The Roster At Those Prices

Girsan has one on the roster for about $520.

Springfield SA35 is not on the roster.

I think FN is bringing it back, but it probably won’t be on the roster and will be at least twice the cost of a Girsan clone.

Girsan has one on the roster and it has gotten good reviews. Turner's had them on sale for $499 recently. I was tempted but I already have an FEG clone that is very good. I did replace the sear with a Browning part, removed the mag safety and the trigger is pretty good.

My dad had a Hi-Power. I sulked a whole because he wouldn't sell it to me. Then the wife got me a BDM. The gun fit nice in my hand so I got over the sulking.

My sad story. Circa 1967 I bought a used Hi-Power from a store in Fresno for $85. It was a Belgian Army model complete with should stock slot and tangent sights. Loved it but five years later it was stolen from the trunk of my car. Probably worth at least $1500 now. I'd never buy another because nothing could beat the one I lost.

If you REALLY want a Hi power and willing to pay that 11% tax for the CA version, then go for it. IMO (objectively), there’s better stuff out there because it’ll take a lot of work to get the Girsan up to a suitable level (trigger is kinda crappy). The BIGGEST negative is the LCI milled in the slide. If the competition model w/ the beavertail was on the CA approved list, I’d consider it.

I would be patient and keep looking for a decent used FN Mk III or an SA-35.

After years of wanting one, I finally bought a new MK III, months before FN announced they were to be discontinued. Two weeks later I bought a used one from a co-worker, a 1980 vintage. Stocked up on freedom week mags, and bought a military style holster from Pacific Canvas and Leather, for when I go shooting with my buddy at his range. So glad I bought one before being discontinued.
