Yes he is right a lot of off the shelf 1911's do have problems. However a little knowlege, skill, tools, and elbow grease can remedy that.

Did any of you watch the video? I do agree with him, that a very reliable 1911 needs to be handfit by an experienced gunsmith. That being said, I love my 1911s (both of them completely reworked by gunsmiths). Although he clearly is biased towards glocks. *shrug*

Everything mechanical has issues. I've had more problems with my various cars over the years than with my guns.

He might be right...I've shot my friends RIA 1911, my brothers Kimber 1911 and my other brother who has a Colt 1911 XSE...And all of them jammed atleast 5 times out of 500 rounds...Even by changing the magazine it still jammed...But after 500 rounds or so they don't jam as much or i haven't seen them jam since...Than being said i think it's probably a break in issue with 1911's...But you know even if they jam all i do is tap the bottom rack the slide and it goes bang...It's not one of those things that bugs me...Maybe because it's not my gun and i didn't pay nearly a $1000 for a 1911...I think all guns jam especially if you don't know how to take care of your gun...I think a big part of the problem is people tend to over oil the gun and that could be a huge problem with a 1911...In fact that's probably why my friends and brothers 1911's jam...I showed them how to clean it and oil the gun with not to much oil for lubricant it started running flawlessly...Now they prefer that i clean their 1911's lol...One time i saw my brothers Kimber and was sweating dripping with oil...I was like what the heck did you dip your damn gun in...It's not a damn crankshaft dude...Just lightly coat your gun with oil...

I have had Glocks jam too...

Ask yourself...if you were going to have a high noon shoot out at 25 yards on main street...which would you rather have? A glock 17 or 19, or a broken in 1911 with a crisp clean trigger??

Your answer will depend on how accurate you want to shoot. I'd like to be accurate in that situation.

All guns are good, but some guns are better than others in certain situations, just like airplanes, cars, and employees.

all 1911's aren't created equal

if youre putting Taurus/Auto Ordanance/garage gunsmith/ect 1911s in the same category as some well maintained, well built guns of course the average is going to go down

I love them from a historical standpoint but i pefer more moderns designs. such as the HK45.

Well in the range ive seen para ordnance malfunction alot but on the other hand i own one that hardly ever malfunction. i cant even remember the last time it did. YMMV

Ive seen it first hand also in IPSC. 1911 FTE/FTF all the time. Even the STIs and SV.

Yes, my Les Baer 1911 is my go to pistol.

A 1911 is not a 1911.

If other companies started making Glocks I'm sure there would be a bunch of junk ones as well. Glock makes Glocks, and only Glocks.

My 1911's are 2 olders Colts, a Springer TRP, and a Les Baer. I'd like a Springer Professional or a Wilson Combat next, but can't justify it becaue my Les Baer sees so much use with no need for replacement.

I'm not going to pick up a Springer GI model and consider it a 1911 on par with my TRP or LB.

It's my opinion that your choice of firearm is usually secondary to your practice/experience with it. Every gun can fail, you've got to train for jams, misfires and such no matter what you chose.

Yep, I watched and the only valid point he made was that the 1911 does not lend itself to mass production.

He does bring up some valid points. The way I see most 1911s around these days is that they're hot rods. Finely tuned, and well taken cared of.. very few drive as sweet. All that can go out of whack with less negligence than many of the modern designs.

Anyone else thought the guy in the video looks like a Raylan Givens (from Justified) going through some middle-life crises and wanting to look like an "Ultimate Fighter" ?

Hey he's a Glock fan-boy. He can buy all the Glocks he wants, I have own and sold two of them, didn't like them. I prefer Sig and 1911. For defense I would rather have a Sig P226 for range time give me a 1911. But what to I know I not an F-in know-it-all who rants on youtube! Kaboom
