Thought I'd tell people that I just bought a Gen 4 G17 and I think Glock has finally resolved the issues with the Gen fours. Before I bought it I made sure it had the latest ejector 30274 and the correct recoil spring 0 4 2. I picked it up and went to the range I put 400 rounds through it without any hiccups or brass in the face.
I know its early in its life but there will be a better test this weekend since I'm taking this bad boy to a 2 day pistol and rifle class with TASC. I went to the range to make sure I didn't have any problems with it before hand. So the moral is I think the Gen 4 17 is GTG with the latest revision.
For what it is I don't think anyone could tell you that you made a bad choice when talking about the G17. It's light weight, potentially hi capacity, accurate, good ergos, and has a great trigger what else could you hope for in a defensive pistol.

the mag release doesn't require a vickers the frame doesn't require modifying.

I didn't know they had a smooth variation.
