I just got rid of a bunch of locks. I could have saved money if I had known that I could type up a dated and signed receipt from a friend whom you bought a lock from. Worked with FFLs that I go to.

there's shops where all you have to do is sign an affidavit that says you have a CA approved safe and you don't need to get the cable lock.

Yes, there are - and they're setting themselves up for problems with the BATF, because BATF has failed to do its job.

I don't understand why you aren't just signing a safe affidavit? Do you seriously not have a safe?

because, as mentioned before, there is both a CA and a federal handgun lock law. the safe affidavit deals with CA law, but does not satisfy federal handgun lock requirements tht the buyer be provided with a lock. Swearing that you have a safe is not enough for the federal law.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I just did a PPT and the gun I bought had its original lock and they said that was fine. Also they didn't care if I locked it or not. They said I have to lock it before I leave the parking lot. So I hop in my jeep, and since I'm a law abiding citizen I pull out the lock and there's no keys!!! Go figure. I guess this FFL just don't care.

Because the safe affidavit is not valid for handgun purchases...

Lgs gets a free lock & charges $5-15 to let you walk out. Nothing more than putting the screw to the customer.

You need to find a new FFL.

Last used gun I bought in CA, FFL ( who has posted in this thread ), gladly gave me a lock and sent me on my way.

It seems you have not read the whole thread.

While a safe is fine for California for either long guns or hand guns, BATF intransigence and incompetence has disallowed a safe to satisfy Federal law for hand guns.

Guys~~~ Buying cable locks for $6 is fine by me.
Sometimes, I bring the sealed and unopen cable lock to the seller. Ask them to put it with the gun and we have no problem on the cable lock.

The worst one is that the Gun shop were selling cable lock for $19.99 (Same thing as the one for $5.99). That's the one really pisses me off.
The Gun world in Burbank does that to me last time.
I decided that never go back there.
