xd vs. glock

i almost divorced my wife, we were going through all the court crap, and i had to pay 860 a month in child support, so, if i divorced her i would have no money to spend on things i like. she works too. she doesnt know guns, the one time i took her to a range with me, she wore a semi-low cut shirt and got a casing on her boobie, she proceeding to freak out that it burned and waved a loaded gun in the air a little. needless to say, that was the last time she went shooting with me.

And who was the inconsiderate OAF who didn't warn her about the potential for hot brass and low necklines to intersect, and the resulting discomfort that occurs? Same oaf as didn't instruct and then DRILL her (practice) on what to do if you're shooting and suddenly an emergency happens (i.e. hot brass, hair catches fire, rabid raccoon attacks your ankle) in a safe and sane manner? Sounds like somebody likes to set his wife up to make a fool of herself and then blames HER and give her no end of crap about it and then tell others so they can laugh at her too? No wonder it's an "almost divorce" type situation.

Sorry, I take lots of women shooting. I always spend at least an hour and a half going over the details beforehand so they know what they're getting into. And yes we do drill them on physical handling with unloaded firearms before even loading up in the car to head towards the range. There is a right and a wrong way to introduce a woman (anyone, really) to shooting. If more people got a polite and THOROUGH introduction, we'd have more shooters today who value their 2nd amendment rights and we wouldn't have to fight HALF the legal garbage the anti's throw in our way because we'd have them hopelessly outnumbered. Sure, enjoy a cheap laugh at a new shooter's expense - but wave bu-bye to their continued interest in firearms, and oh yeah to some of your 2nd amendment freedom they take with them when they go.

Now to transition: XD for us... my wife has an XD9 and likes it a lot. About 2500-3000 rounds through it so far and it just keeps working. It gets a good cleaning after every range trip. If you like a firearm, why would you not maintain it properly? The XD is no beauty queen, but I'm sorry, the Glock is like a girl who puts out but is too darn fugly to kiss with the lights on. I want to like her, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

Granted, one should use enough care when holstering that it never happens, but I also like the grip safety for CCW. It's just added insurance against the chance of an AD due to snagging the trigger on clothing.

Amen, its what sold me on XD's, its why despite my two negative comments, which have been raped by others, I do actually own 2 XD's and carry one to work... Though glocks have caught my attention, as I want another reliable 9mm, which I can actually have additional parts for and not count on springfield for repairs.

Good thing I can store a Glock in a bucket of water for a month. You never know when you might have to do that.

and last but not least... the Delta Force's most renowned and respected instructor? Funny, if he's so renowned why dont I know who he is? Again, he has his opinion but he dont speak on yours or my behalf.

Just shoot what you like to shoot but dont try to convince others that what they are shooting is wrong, its a battle you will never win.

wow, quite a bit of judging there. since you're trying to blame me for everyone losing gun rights, you might as well blame me for nazi germany too. i DID teach my wife about safety, i DID tell her she shouldnt wear that shirt, i warned her about flying brass and what not, she chose to wear it anyways. i do blame HER for what happened, SHE is the one that didnt listen, SHE is the one that didnt remain calm, so i have every right to blame HER. i'm just going to keep it at that, if i say more, i'll probably get banned.

No, mine didn't break yet, but it's reassuring to know that parts are available nearby.

I did, honestly, many times in fact, and my Glock doesn't rust. My XD needed complete refinishing throughout.

Every tactical instructor worth beans that I've seen had a Glock in his holster.....NONE had an XD.

This isn't a fair argument as the XD hasn't even been around for 10 years yet... the glocks been around the block and has had a lot of time to become a servicable weapon. XD is still a baby. A lot of departments aren't going to go with something new, when the old still works.

I dunno, I'd say the XD's been out long enough (HS2000 came out in '99, right?) that it's track record for reliability is legit. Even SA's had the gun long enough to work out any kinks. Glock's record will never be surpassed in that regard, but after a while, reliable is reliable, eh? Now the M&P, OTOH, is a baby....

You're the 2nd person I've offended in 24 hours, so maybe it's just me going thru a preachy/rude/just-not-getting-how-I'm-coming-across kinda thing. Well, what can I say but that I'm sorry if what I posted bugged you - it was intended more as a thought-provoker than an outright criticism, but I'm understanding it came across as more of the latter. I hope she's gotten over the noob shooter thing and you two are happily shooting up the range together. Good luck and sorry for the bad form on my part.

I think it's a toss up. Pick what fits best in your hands and shoots better for you. For me it's the Glock, that's why I have a 21SF waiting to be DROSed (1 gun every 30 days punishment). That said though, I do like the 5 inch XDs. They seem inherently more accurate than the 4.6 inch barreled Glocks. But for overall performance and simplicity of operation (and availability of cheap replacement parts that I can work on myself), the Glock wins over the XD. YMMV.
