I have fired the glocks, own an XD and loved it... until recently. I will also never buy a glock. After firing the M&P family (9/40/45) I see no point in wasting money on either the glock or the XD now. There is just no comparison. Just my 1.5 cents. I am saving my pennies to buy one or two or three.

If you look at this objectively, and for the characteristics that are important for a reliable fighting combat pistol that you may someday need to depend on to save your life - not a fair weather Sunday static range plinking pistol - there is a clear winner.Comment

Which Caliber?
OH NO! Not this topic AGAIN!
9mm=IMO Glock just feels good in 9mm. Maybe because that was the caliber it was originally designed for.
.45ACp=IMO XD grip is great in this caliber(but you can't get extra parts because Springfield is too stingy and can't wont make them available!!!!! D'oH!!!! Stupidest policy ever!
) I don't care either way about the Grip safety, AS LONG As it doesn't malfunction and make the pistol inoperable.

Huh? 12,000+ rounds through my XD, and my LCI has never broken. Neither has the LCI on my brother's XD, my best friend's, or any other XD shooter I personally know.
It is possible for gunk to build up under the LCI so that it is always in a slightly raised position, but good cleaning and the use of something like GunScrubber takes this right out.
Any part can break, but I have never seen a widespread problem with the LCI on an XD.
As for it its uselessness...well, gee...I use the Loaded Chamber Indicator to insure that the chamber is loaded. The same reason why all the Glock and 1911 shooters I compete with all do press-checks. Except I don't like the risk that the gun did not go fully back into battery after a press-check.
The guy with Alzheimer's is the one who racked a round into the chamber on a gun he made need to save his life, but didn't confirm that a round was chambered. Don't think it's possible that occasionally a round isn't chambered (due to an improperly seated or malfunctioning mag)? They you haven't shot enough. It happens.
I didn't realize that. I need to un-fix my XD, and send the parts back to Springfield that they (apparently) should not have sold me.
Now, granted, the bulk of parts are not available to the end-user. But SA does offer a lifetime warranty (including shipping cost reimbursement if it is a quality issue).
As for which to choose...that's easy. Go to a range, rent and shoot both, buy the one with which you shoot better.
I LOVE the XD because the ergonomics are phenomenal (for me). The grip angle is identical to a 1911, and the double-stack frame is very comfortable in my hand.
The gun is reliable, accurate, and has a lifetime warranty.
The downside...Glocks have been on the market longer, so there are more accessories and you have a greater ability to do work on the internals of the gun yourself.
The Glock is a world-class firearm, and rightfully so. But I don't use them because I HATE the feel of the grip (too big and has the grip angle similar to a Luger's).
They are accurate and reliable. One issue I really don't like about the Glock is the likelihood of malfunctions if you do not hold the gun right (i.e. limp wristing). I know that it is important to have a proper hold on a gun, but I worry about a gun that is going to choke if I don't grip it right. It is said that most of the plastic guns can have this problem, but the Glock is the only one that I've seen do it (and do it with multiple people).
But again, buy the one that shoots best for you.

I have both. Glock 35 and XD 9 Tac. Both are great guns.
After shooting my XD for a while, I could not go back and shoot the Glock, until I had a grip reduction. Now I love it. But can't shoot IDPA with it. Only USPSA. Will not buy another Glock until they do something about grip angle choice. Now if we could just get some CCF Frames into CA.If you can't shoot good, at least look good shootingComment

My chamber indicator hasn't broken.... and really only serves the purpose that Springfield says it does, quick & easy way to be sure that there's one in the chamber during a stressed, dark SHTF situation. This same old tired argument is like saying which is better, Coke or Pepsi?Basically the same gun...
XD Con;
Chamber indicator which will break... and really serves no purpose other then for blind shooters who alzheimer's.
You can't repair the XD's, because they don't break! (fixed it for ya'
)
XD Pro;
I like the safety.
With this said, and already owning 2 XD's I still pick glock, as I'll be buying one after new years. G19. I like being able to repair my own gun!War is when your Government tells you who the enemy is......

Springfield will fix their guns for free forever.Glock inspects your pistol and replaces worn parts for FREE.
Glock is used by more military and police units around the world, more than any other handgun ever made.
Glock runs lubricated or not, functions well in any climate conditions, and they run when absolutely filthy.
Glock parts are interchangeable with other Glocks, no handfitting required.
Glock is "user friendly," and can be detail stripped by about anyone - no gunsmith or special armorer required.
Glock can be stored under water for over a month, dried, then oiled, and you wouldn't know it for the wear.
Glock has no uneccessary secondary safety switches or decocking levers.
Glock is used by more civilian, LEO, and military firearm instructors and schools than any other firearm.
Delta Force's most renowned and respected instructor in the history of the unit both uses and advocates Glock as his weapon of choice ("unless you are a 1911 certified gunsmith")
XD?
.
Glock used by more M&P than anything else? Maybe. But I don't see any proof. Maybe they get 'em for cheap.
XD torture test
Why do you need to interchange your Glock parts with other Glock parts? Did yours break?
I guess XD's are pretty "user friendly", they field strip easily, but if Glocks run flawslessly when dirty, why take it apart and clean it?
Pretty much any gun can be stored under water for a month, dried and oiled, and nobody would ever know. Quality metals won't degrade in fresh water in a month. Try it.
Springfield doesn't have uneccessary secondary safety switches. It's there because the designers felt that it was neccessary. XD's do not have decockers.
Glock used by more instructors than anything else? Again, maybe. Again, no proof.
Just who is Delta Force's most famous instructor? I've always heard that most military Spec Ops guys preferred Sigs. (I know, I know. No proof)

Ah well when zombies come, I hope Fedex is still in business!I didn't realize that. I need to un-fix my XD, and send the parts back to Springfield that they (apparently) should not have sold me.

I have 2 XDs. .45 service and the SC in 9mm. The grip angle fit me better that the G pistol.
Granted, one should use enough care when holstering that it never happens, but I also like the grip safety for CCW. It's just added insurance against the chance of an AD due to snagging the trigger on clothing."Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." -Ben Franklin
