Not prior to 2002. They were effectively a 1911-only company before that, and 1911s have never been embraced by the wider LEA community. Since that time, they've dropped the ball, but I think that a) it is because they effectively only have the XD product line to market to LEs, and b) they feel like they are playing catch-up to the well-entrenched Big 3. Springfield appears to spend the far greater amount of marketing $$$ on consumers because they get a better ROI than they would in the LEA market (given the costs of buy-backs, armorer training, print and event marketing, T&E coordination, etc.).

I've been to probably 8 handgun classes in the last 2 years. Every one of them involved more than 1000 rounds over the course of a few days.
I've seen every single one of the guns mentioned malf at least once. I've also seen every one of the guns mentioned make it through the whole weekend or 3 days or whatever without a hitch. I have yet to see any of them have a serious malfunction that involved more than a simple malfunction drill to clear during any one of those classes.
M&P, XD and Glock are all fine, reliable guns. It really comes down to personal preference, and what kind of deal you can get on one. Personally I prefer the ergos of the M&P or the XD slightly, but other people disagree.
Since there's a screaming deal on XD's this weekend, I'm going to go look at one of those. But I shot all of them a lot first before even considering it.sigpicComment

Glock has a shorter trigger reset for faster and more accurate follow-up shots. Less finger movement means less gun movement wich means faster/better hits.Comment

Which, on factory triggers, means very little beyond the theoretical. And becomes a complete non-issue when both guns have trigger work done to them.My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.Comment

In theory. All those attribute help AID in better shooting but, 90% of the time the shooter makes the gun not the gun make the shooter.Glock has a shorter trigger reset for faster and more accurate follow-up shots. Wow, could not possibly disogree with you more. There is nothing theoretical about it. I see a direct result in how trigger reset effects my shooting on various guns and seen how it effects many other shooters during training. Yes you can adapt, but it most definately has a direct impact on your shooting. New shooters won't know how to exploit it without training, but the first thing they learn when they get training is trigger control and mastering trigger reset.
Trigger control is critical. 50% of trigger control is properly exploiting trigger reset. A great deal of training time is dedicated to learning how to do it properly at the major shooting schools. The factory XD reset is about 1/2 completely released. That is a NO GO for me. But not as bad as the SIG Glock Clone with makes you completely release the trigger before it resets.
Of course I am talking about factory. Once you get a trigger job you are no longer evaluating the gun in question, you are evaluating aftermarket parts and the workmanship of whoever installed them. It stops being an apples to apples comparision. You're not comparing Glock and XD, you are comparing a factory gun to a custom one. Nobody in their right mind would let that slide without crying foul.
Plus, most law enforcement shooters are rightfully forbidden by their agencies from having work done on their triggers. Particularly when it comes to lightening or altering the pull. That is a sure fire way to have an ND. What works great on a competition gun is not ideal for a duty weapon. So by arguing that an XD trigger reset can be fixed makes it equal or superior to a Glock completely ignores the needs of a huge segment of shooters.Last edited by tacticalcity; 09-18-2011, 12:47 AM.Comment

I've had all 3. My XD45 is a great gun and I took top shooter in my academy with it. There are a few things I don't like about it though, it has been completely reliable for me. The grip safety is a non issue to me but the ergos on the slide could be better. It can really tear your hand up if youre not wearing gloves (this was addressed in the XDM). I recently sold my G19. It was a great gun and I wish it fit me better. It just didn't point well for me and the trigger could be better out of the box but Glocks (if they fit you well are one of the best guns out there (this is coming from a 1911 guy)). I recently got a M&P in 40 and dropped a 9 barrel in it along with the Apex duty kit and a RAM. This gun addresses all the issues I have had with XDs and Glocks. I think they are the pistol to get if a Glock dosent quite fit you right.Last edited by tcb; 09-18-2011, 6:33 PM.Comment

To me Glock or XD is about the same as Coke or Pepsi?? which one fits your taste better, hold them shoot them pick the one you like, both are quality reliable guns, I chose XD due to feel. you may not, by the way, I'm a Pepsi guy if that helps?Comment

Coke=Glock
Here is why I like Glock better
1.Less moving parts
2.Proven Reliability
3.Polygon barrel= higher FPS
4.Only one safety
5.34+1 on the 9mm
and thats just to name a few. There are sniper everywhere and nowhere.....who knows what is out there.

I agree with you on your points, and Glocks, while I do think Glocks are probably one of the best made hand guns ever, I pick it up, hold it, shoot it, and it's not for me, if it had a different grip angle, I'd probably be a Glock guy, I even recommend Glocks to friends, I say it you like the feel, you cant go wrong with one, but for many, like me, it just doesn't feel right in the hands, that's why with all guns, we can all give advise on the function and reliability or features of a gun, but when it comes down to it, every one has to hold and shoot a gun to decide if it's for them.
Another good point with Glocks, their easy to sale when you want something else, it seems almost every one wants a Glock.
And if looking for a great deal, often there are steals out there on used Glocks.Last edited by brianm767; 09-19-2011, 7:01 PM.Comment
