Glock or 1911?

I firmly believe that 1911's can be reliable if you're willing to do your part. Buying a Glock because you think a 1911 can't be reliable is definitely a fallacy...if you don't mind routine maintenance, a 1911 and an AR/M4 can be just as reliable as a Glock/AK, the main key is to not remove any metal if you don't know what you're doing

Yeah. I have my heart set on the 1911. Now, it's just a matter of which one to get. (To start with. ) I love the Dan Wesson but it's gonna be hard to find. I guess I just need to figure out if I wanna start out with a vintage War model or the Dan Wesson (if I can find the one I want.) I also want to shoot the DW before I commit. I'm not worried about maintaining it, though. I don't know if I'll be taking it apart, though. I have a bad habit of taking things apart and not being able to put them back together.

I've had both at the same time.. and could shoot both equally well.

Budget permitting I'll have another 1911 soon...

1911 has served since it first came out.. good enough for the military good enough for me.

Just as I was about to put a down payment on the 1911 I chose, (Dan Wesson CBOB) the engine on my car blue. I can't afford both and of course I have to repair the car. Talk about raining on my parade.

1911 all day. I'm a glock fan boy but unless it's for a hd/ccw or work horse go 1911.

Well, I have the itch for another handgun. As much as I love my Sig, I'm a bit bored with it and want something else. I've shot both 1911s and Glocks, and understand that they're completely different beasts. As my Sig really serves the purpose of home defense, this second one would probably be for fun, but for home defense as well. If I get a Glock, I want a baby one; a 26, 27, or 36. For a 1911, I'm not so sure. I haven't shot that many but prefer the SA to the Kimber, and the Dan Wesson to both of them. Another option would be to get a WWII used one, which I had on the back burner for a while, but has come back to life. If I do get the WWII one, however, it's something I'd want to shoot as well as have on the shelf. I understand that the 1911 won't be able to take as much abuse as the Glock, but will I have to baby it? Also, which one would serve a better purpose for overall enjoyment as well as a BUG to my Sig?

Depends on you and your budget. If you're not going to use it for a concealed carry piece, and you want a Glock, get a Full size or midsize Glock. As others said, Glock 26 is nice concealment piece, but that's really the only thing it does well. It's like a J frame revolver; great for what it is, but not useful for anything else. I've shot the Glock 17, 34, 19 and 22 and all work well for me.

If you want a 1911, the Dan Wesson is a great choice; though it is expensive. Again, as others have said, if you're willing to do your part, a good 1911 is an excellent choice and the Dan Wesson pistols are excellent 1911s.

If you only want to spend $600.00, buy a Glock. If you're willing to lay down the cash for a Dan Wesson, which is I believe, $1500.00-$1800.00, go for the 1911. I would say that if you're willing to spend $1800.00, you might also want to see if you can find a used Wilson Combat or used Nighthawk in that price range. If you want to spend between that, take a look at the Colt XSE or XSE Rail. They're getting good reviews from dependable sources. Same goes for the Smith and Wesson E series 1911.

Look at the TRP as well!!! You can usually find one around $1500. While I would choose a DW over a TRP all things being equal, by the time you SSE you are paying a good deal more.

Right up to that point I was going to say 1911... But a Glock 26 is a great BUG to your SIG...
The smaller Bug sized 1911 can be finnicky... but not always.. so you have that choice as well...

1911's are fun... and every reasonable gun owner should own one at least once in their lifetime... I've had a dozen or so... and no longer own one.. as of a week ago... it feels almost un-american after 30+ years with them.. I can fix that..

That said I still voted Glock... It's simple ... a good all around trustworthy platform .. Not emotion based or a BBQ gun.. just a good old reliable hammer for the most part.. especially in 9mm...
