Stay away from the Walther P-22, and the Sig Mosquito. Both of them are unreliable, and have serious jamming problems.

How many rounds when your's failed? Was it under warranty?

Avoid any pistol that accepts rare caliber ammo, unless you're a collector. (remember the .41AE back in the early 90's?)

...They were made of pot metal (toy cap gun zinc castings, and I think some of those toy cap gun companies actually changed tooling over for this) so they wore out quick and could be easily broken or become unreliable....

The cast zinc aspect never put me off too much (altho I don't own any of these)

Good zinc alloys are stronger than cast iron, and if the device is designed around the zinc alloy's characteristics, should work fine.

I like steel and walnut guns...

Well.... I read enough of the thread to see that I was not the only one to buy one of the ring of fire guns as my first. Phoenix 22 something or other, hell, I don't even load it anymore. I keep it in the back of the safe as the "safe empty" indicator in case of SHTF, I figure at least I can throw it hard enough to kill someone.

I would stay away from the Beretta, I have read about all the locking block failures and you'll be lucky to have one before the slide fails and impales you in the face.

I would stay away from Glocks because I have read about all the Kabooms they do. I read a statistic on the interenet that said that they Kaboom all the time.

I would not touch a Sig, because the frame rails are cheap aluminum and crack all the time.

S&W Third Gens are junk, because a lot of police departments use them and most police don't know anything about guns.

Ruger P series are bad because Bill Ruger sold us out.

1911s are no good because they are heavy and old and jam a lot.

HK is cool, because they make cool t-shirts and dick Sharkman Marcinko says so as well.

CZs suck because they were designed by Commies.

The Browning HP is no good because it was designed by a Mormon and is old and not cool like the other guns.

I figure, buy a HK if you can afford to spend $1000 for a lead thrower, otherwise you should just buy a cheap Bryco and save the money, because if you listen to all the internet experts, every other gun is crap.

My Taurus 92F vintage 1988 (?) has never had a FTF, FTE in roughly 6,000 rounds, and is combat accurate @ 25 yards...

Weird, some guy was at the range with one of those and both me and my friend were invited to shoot it (They shot my .44 DE) and it did not jam, 2 mags. But it was only 2 mags. Guy had one in 9mm and .40.

I have semiauto Glocks, CZs, HKs and many 1911s (Kimber, Colt, S&W and Les Baer) but the only one that ever failed on me in the field was my .45 HK USP-C.

I liked the USP-C design, ergonomics and looks until a flatspring sheared and fell out of the magwell. Then I tried to order parts but HK is so g*damn stingy about selling parts, it seems. They wouldn't sell to my local gunsmith (not an HK armourer) - but then agreed to sell him the $6 part after he undergo a screening process of some sort. In the end they never got back to him. I'll probably have to get around to find a local HK armourer at some point. (does anyone know of a "locator" online or of an HK armourer between the SF Bay area and the Central Valley?).

My USP-C has been shelved for about a year now and I just shoot my other guns.

I have nothing against HK (and I still love my P7) but I'll never recommend the USP-C and I think they're overrated and overpriced. Even if and when I get it fixed I'd never rely on it as a carry gun - I just can't trust the design anymore.

BTW. I prefer my FAL to the overpriced G3 any day of the week.
