It feels like a tried and true, but semi-outdated design to me. Controls are overly big to accommodate those shooting with gloves. That can be both a negative or positive depending on user. One of the selling points of USPs is that you can carry it in Condition 1 like a 1911. I think since USPs have been around for some time and H&K already has newer models/updates of guns.. USPs have finally fallen to a price-point which I think they're worth. I've seen used ones go for around the $500 mark. Mags will still be expensive unless you go with USP 40, I see them on clearance a lot on various sites like CDNN Investments (~$20), probably because they're the most common.

Personally, I like the P226 and CZ better than the USP (as far as how they feel and shoot). I even like the SigPro better than the USP (then again, I like it even better than the P226). The USP is not in any way a bad gun (quite the contrary), but as mentioned before, it feels outdated (to me) in its class of guns. The H&K P30 is the updated and more "modern" USP, however its not on the roster so expect to pay over a grand for it if you find one.

The USP's recoil spring system is also one of those advantages/disadvantages depending on user. It does have a lower perceived recoil.. but it achieves this by slowing the cycle so the recoil is spread through a longer period. For me, it made reacquiring targets slower.

For what its worth, my USP ran 100% all the time though - can't say the same about all my P226s (guess ultimately, thats what really counts) and the lines on the slide itself are really attractive. No other gun looks meaner.. its the frame that feels outdated and unaccommodating, but maybe us American shooters are just a spoiled bunch.

The CZ is nice. If you really want a P226, get a P226. You can't go wrong with it. The BTFO is nice, the sights are decent. Sig's slides and hammers won't bit you if you are using a strong grip. If it were me, I would buy a standard p226 and spend the extra money on mags. I have a P226 Navy and love it. I shoot it more than anything else, barring carbines.

A few things to consider from my experience are:
      1. Get either MecGar or Sig branded mags. Promags suck and will make a very reliable gun stumble and choke. Promags are cheap for a good reason.
      2. Sig's customer service is excellent. If you have questions or problems, call them first. They will help you and they will make any issues right. An even better scenario is to buy your Sig from a dealer that is also a certified Sig armorer. This way if there is any issue or you require sight adjustments, etc. Your dealer can handle it for you. National Police Supply in Vista is this type of dealer.
      3. Don't believe the internet hype about Sig's quality declining. Sig is still head and shoulders above a lot of others, even with 'Made in USA' slides and frames. German quality is excellent, but we do still know how to make something here.
      4. Preventative maintenance is important. Keep your Sig lubed.

Whatever you decide, have fun with it.

If you really want the Sig I would suggest just getting it.

I think where I and many of the other posters are falling in, is that you can get an equal quality pistol for a much lower price. My vote is for the CZ SP01. I have a couple 75s and have shot the SP01. While Sigs are nice I think they are carrying a much higher price than what they are truly worth.

I love my M&P9.....the trigger is not the greatest but you could get the gun and the APEX trigger (Whenever its back in stock) for less than $1000.....

I like the idea of a more inexpensive comparable gun...that leaves me more money for another gun! Now I just need to go shoot some before I make my decision.

czcustom is about it. theres also a guy on the cz forums who does much cheaper trigger jobs.

CZs are really gaining steam latley, but parts / accesories are pretty expensive and hard to find. The more end users, the more stuff comes and and the price goes down The out of the box gun is great though.

I've got a P226R in SS, but the stainless are a little tough to find.
Probably my favorite pistol to shoot (see list below) My next to get is a Beretta 92FS.

I hate that CZ's don't fit my hand at all. I hate it even more when the majority of people say they have the best ergo's. I hate it because they are great handguns, all of the ones I have shot. But they just feel wrong in my hand. Everybody is different. SIG's standard grip is perfect for me. I just wish they could stay up on QC, and not worry about stupid crap like diamond plate slides, or rainbow finishes. Forget the bs, focus on making pistols to old SIG standards "to hell and back reliability"
After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn't do it.

Right there is where you loose me. I am NOT a DA/SA fan. Learned the hardway that fighting both the safety and two different trigger pulls can be a nightmare in defensive shooting. As many people love them as hate them however. Some people actually shine on them. But others own them for things like brand loyalty and don't take all that hard a look at their own performance with them. At the end of the day, how well you can master it and perform with it is all that matters. Everybody is different.

The H&K USP and P2000 offer DA/SA models that can be carried cocked and locked. Allowing you to bypass the really heavy DA trigger pull. The V1 trigger pack in particular on the USP allows this. I am told CZs can do the same thing but I do not have any first hand experience with them. I do know the HK USP V1 I owned that could do this was one heck of a firearm. If I couldn't carry a Glock or 1911 then it would be my firearm of choice.

What I don't like about DA/SA Sigs, and it is pretty much the only thing I don't like about them since they are extremely well made, is that their decocker forces you to have to carry hammer down and fight the first DA trigger pull. If they could be carried cocked and locked I would love them. Since your requirement is DA/SA only I will not go into my gripes about the DAK trigger system compared to the Glock.

In any case, give the H&Ks and CZs that can be carried cocked and locked a look. You might like them. They offer more carry condition options. You may not need or want to carry cocked and locked today, but if you change your mind down the road you will have the option. It is nice to have options.

well the reason I want DA/SA is just to add to a collection i have started...2 of my handguns are SA only and one of them (technically my fiance's) is DA/SA. I figured I would have an all around full size that doesnt limit me. If that didnt matter I'd probably just pick up another XD.

I am just not a fan of the glock thats why I went for the XD. I think I've narrowed it to a Beretta 92FS, P226, and the CZ to go check out all in one range trip assuming they have all 3 to check out.

I would dump the requirement for a rail and get the 75B. IMO best pointing 9mm save the Browning Hi-Power which is single action only.
