It feels like a tried and true, but semi-outdated design to me. Controls are overly big to accommodate those shooting with gloves. That can be both a negative or positive depending on user. One of the selling points of USPs is that you can carry it in Condition 1 like a 1911. I think since USPs have been around for some time and H&K already has newer models/updates of guns.. USPs have finally fallen to a price-point which I think they're worth. I've seen used ones go for around the $500 mark. Mags will still be expensive unless you go with USP 40, I see them on clearance a lot on various sites like CDNN Investments (~$20), probably because they're the most common.
Personally, I like the P226 and CZ better than the USP (as far as how they feel and shoot). I even like the SigPro better than the USP (then again, I like it even better than the P226). The USP is not in any way a bad gun (quite the contrary), but as mentioned before, it feels outdated (to me) in its class of guns. The H&K P30 is the updated and more "modern" USP, however its not on the roster so expect to pay over a grand for it if you find one.
The USP's recoil spring system is also one of those advantages/disadvantages depending on user. It does have a lower perceived recoil.. but it achieves this by slowing the cycle so the recoil is spread through a longer period. For me, it made reacquiring targets slower.
For what its worth, my USP ran 100% all the time though - can't say the same about all my P226s (guess ultimately, thats what really counts) and the lines on the slide itself are really attractive. No other gun looks meaner.. its the frame that feels outdated and unaccommodating, but maybe us American shooters are just a spoiled bunch.

The out of the box gun is great though.
