From my experience with the way Ruger has done in the past I'm guessing they're going to pimp the f*ck out of it in the gun rags, create a ton of hype, but not produce it in any sort of quantity until something else has taken the lime-light. I swear they have the sh*ttiest marketing/logistics communication problem I've ever seen out of a large company.

tough luck....Ruger's first 1911 is considered an entirely new gun in Cali.

Response: No, I am sorry the new SR1911 is not available in California. Under California Law, center fire pistols manufactured after January 1, 2007 must be equipped with both a loaded chamber indicator and a magazine disconnect. Although the SR1911 has a witness hole that allows one to determine the presence of a round on the chamber, the California Department of Justice has not recognized this device as satisfying the loaded chamber indicator requirement. The SR1911 has no magazine disconnect either. As such, the SR1911 will not be offered in California in its current configuration. At this point, there are no plans to produce a California compliant model. If you should need further assistance please call our Service Department at 928/778-6555 between 8:00 - 4:00, MST Monday thru Friday, at a time convenient for you. A Ruger Representative will be happy to help you.

Most people already knew this. J. M. Browning's design doesn't have a MDM or an LCI. Someone would have to redesign this gun to make it roster compliant.

The way to get this is via Single Shot.
          Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

            .

            excellent point.....
neither beavertail grip safety, Novak cut sights, lowered/beveled ejection port, 3-hole aluminum trigger, front strap checkering, extended thumb safety etc. etc. are Browning's original idea of a 1911.

witness hole is worthless for the visually impaired i.e. blind people.

I'm definitely gonna have to pick one of these up. Have to wait for it to make it on the MD handgun roster though . Hopefully an FFL will be willing to donate one to the Maryland State Police for review. :fingerscrossed:

For those people who have bought an off-roster pistol here in CA, how much more do you think you paid for it going this way than you would have otherwise? Did you pay MSRP for just the gun itself + the conversion costs? I know I read about some members here that bought H&K P30s single shot. just trying to get a ballpark idea what it might add to the cost of one of these SR1911s.
Been thinking about jumping into the 1911 world and this SR1911 might be the one if its still less than the SA Loaded after this SS conversion.

That's hardly a worthy point. All of those things are modifications of the original parts. A loaded chamber indicator like what is on the SR9 series would be a completely new part, as would a magazine disconnect.

We might have a chance if Ruger decides to make a Hi-Power, then again a snowman might have a chance in hell if he quits smoking.

Just wanted to revive this thread rather than start a new one..

Anyone know is the SR1911 will EVER be California legal?

                                Just curious...

                                Thanks.
