Harm in cleaning everytime after range?

I clean everything but my m&p after every trip.

Doing the aforementioned 2k round challenge.

I always do a cleaning everytime when back from the range. I only use CLP or M Pro 7. I onlu use patches and not brush. I only use good ood Number 9 when really dirty. Does anybody see any harm in this kind of cleaning routine? I have seen stories here where owners are saying they only clean at 500 to 1000 rounds and I cant bring myself to that yet. I own Glocks, Sig, and Beretta. What do you guys think?

How would it be bad if you cleaned it after every time you used it? Its not like your only shooting a box of ammo and leaving and going home to clean just from a few rounds. I shoot 150-250 range visit and thats just on pistols and thats once a month as of lately. In any case, your supposed to keep it clean after use. You dont have to make it shine and show your reflection, just keep it clean and adequately but not overly lubed.

If you have a gun like a Glock, you really can't use grease because the slide doesn't really ride on the frame like most guns. I just use motor oil for the most part on my Glocks. My AR gets greased.

My Glock 20 has less than 1k rounds through it.

My AR has about 200-300 rounds through it.

My 1 month old Glock 17 has nearly 2k rounds through it..

I think the 2000 round challenge would be fun. It won't prove anything scientific, but if everyone does the test objectively, it be good reading/viewing if not another reason to go shooting at the very least.

i'm doing it. i'm not cleaning my beretta for 2k rounds. i handload so getting 2k shouldn't be a problem. i'm gonna go clean it real nice and take a 'before' picture.

I don't think 2k rounds is unreasonable at all.

I've put 1k rounds downrange in one weekend at the desert out of my XD9.
My usual run at OC Indoor is 100-200 rounds per caliber for semi-autos and 50-100 for the .357mag.

I clean my weapons after every range trip, and sometimes when they've not been used in a while. No one ever died because their weapon was too clean... I'm ok with the negligible wear "excessive" cleaning might theoretically cause. It's far better than the problems that could be caused by insufficient care. As for a 2k test? I believe the DoD and various law enforcement agencies have stress-tested everything I have, far beyond any abuse I might care to do.

For an old fart like me it is best to clean my guns while it is on the front page of todays issue of Brain Awareness. I have neglected a time or two (or three or more?) to clean after use only to discover my error the next time I brought out the guns. My reaction is: "Who used my guns and left them like THIS?"

When realization sets in that it was ME I give myself at least 20 demerits right then and there. Coupled with the ones handed out by my wife of 53 years, well, those demerits can really add up. The good news is that I cannot remember what the hell all those demerits were for.

BOTTOM LINE: It is BEST to clean your guns promptly so they are ALWAYS clean, rust free, oiled, and READY FOR USE.

If you clean properly you should have no problem.

one tip I learned is don't over lube, a little sheen is all you need, no drops, drips or flowing lube lol

haha 2k challenge on CF is joke. i clean about every 3-4k on my .22. no problem or performance difference.

I'm running 20W-50 Mobile 1 Synthetic and no issues either.

I don't think it's bad if you have the time and effort to put forth.

I don't do much cleaning because I'm lazy as heck. Shot about 300 rounds through my XD9 today and simply did two passes with a boresnake and some CLP. Never did much more than that other than the first time I shot it (it was my first gun) and have a few thousand rounds through it with no issues.
