Harm in cleaning everytime after range?

    Hello

I always do a cleaning everytime when back from the range. I only use CLP or M Pro 7. I onlu use patches and not brush. I only use good ood Number 9 when really dirty. Does anybody see any harm in this kind of cleaning routine? I have seen stories here where owners are saying they only clean at 500 to 1000 rounds and I cant bring myself to that yet. I own Glocks, Sig, and Beretta. What do you guys think?

I clean my centerfire guns after every range trip with all sorts of solvents, brushes, patches, and jags. My 10/22 gets cleaned whenever I'm really bored and have nothing better to do. Maybe around every 500 rounds.

I haven't noticed any decrease in performance or accuracy of any of my guns doing this. I doubt some cotton and some nylon bristles will do much to hardened steel.

If you clean properly you should have no problem.

        pretty much

one tip I learned is don't over lube, a little sheen is all you need, no drops, drips or flowing lube lol

No harm in cleaning your guns every time, keep up the good habit. Just like anything, the better you take care of it the better it will work in the long run. I don't think NOT cleaning everytime will hurt much either, but if you already do it then why stop? A clean gun is a good gun.

Disassembling and assembling your firearm creates wear; so does brushes. However, most of us don't do it often enough to make a real difference in firearm life. A gun can run fine for thousands and thousands of rounds and many cleanings.

There was a M1 Garand manual that stated that excessive disassembly would wear down the rifle.

I know I will never shoot enough to wear out a barrel or even preplace strings even. Maybe if I had a private range and could afford thousands and thousands of rounds, maybe.

Just remember the barrel doesn't have to be spotless and that the gun doesn't have to be detail stripped every time. Lube is relative to the type of gun, so just follow the instructions or what aficionados of the model suggest on the internet.

thanks for the feedback. As to the lube, would you say that 2 drops on my fingers going over the slide rails and barrel area is ok? Also you you put more lube just prior to the range? For example you clean and lube today but go to range next month. Is the lune still going to protect?

Depends on what you're using. I use grease for this very reason. Grease won't evaporate or run off like some oils will. I use Brownells action lube on pistol slides, and any parts that have a sliding surface, and oil on anything that rotates or has only a small sliding surface.

Clean it properly and you are good to go.

Think about it this, what puts more wear on your gun? Wiping a patch down the tube or firing a projectile capable of several hundred pounds plus of force?

                      WTB used AK MFER.

It's a gun, not the space shuttle. Chill out.
One extra drop of oil or field stripping isn't going to hurt anything. I think cleaning causes much less wear/tear than firing it. And if it can fire 10's of 1000's of rounds....

Another gun forum I'm on regularly has members participating in a "2,000 round challenge" with no cleaninng or maintenance for the duration, and I'd say 98% of them report no issues. So, I imagine it doesn't hurt anything, but it's not really neccessary either with the kinds of guns you're shooting.

I clean every gun after every shoot... In fact, I get bothered if I dont clean it within 24 hours (usually the following day) - sometimes I can't do it till the following weekend and it bugs me... no good reason, just as thing I have...
