I'd put at least 100 rounds of JHP through my gun before I can trust with it. After that, I just shoot one mag of JHP every four months. So whenever I place an order online, I order at least 300-400 rounds of JHP. It will last me at least 4-5 years.

The indoor range I used to frequent in the SFV when I lived in the LA area was FMJ only

+1 to this. They arnt going to pull a gun on you and tell you to GTFO! What they don't know will not hurt them.

I have never run into "No HP's allowed". All of the ranges down here in San Diego that I have been to allow them. The only restriction they have is "No Steel Case Ammo" Wolf, etc.

OnTarget allows both HP and Wolf!

Orange County Sheriffs range off Katella by the HondaPonda allows HPs, just no magnum rounds. the only drawback is ther limited hours Weds-Sat until 5:00. But that workds for me I love the place!

Are you better off than you were four years ago?

What are people around here doing to ensure that their semi-automatic HD/SD pistols feed hollowpoints OK? I am sure that they do, but back in the 80s I had problems with hollowpoints with my Colt 45 Gold Cup and to a lesser extent the Beretta Model 84. I am imagining that more modern pistols are ramped and designed for hollowpoints, but I still do not feel comfortable loading up an HD/SD round that I have not personally tested my pistol with.

It is not like you can conveniently go out in the boonies to shoot like people in free states can do.

                  Solution?

Also: what is the issue with hollowpoints at the ranges? Are they worried about lead contamination?

The limitation usually have something to do with the type of back stop and distance. I remember when I used to work at Brea Range (now OC shooting range in Brea), distance is only 50ft and it's steel back stop. Due to concerns of richochet, no HP allowed. When I start to work at On-Target more than 10yrs ago, since the distance is 25yrds, no limitation on HP usage. I know that OC indoor range and even Evans are now upgraded to rubber back stop, so may be they do allow HP now.

OCIndoorrange is awesome. I recall they even allowed a fella use an m1 carbine. aluminum case no problem. unjacketed no problem. Bring in your own targets no problem as long as its paper or cardboard.

I think they used to prohibit HPs but changed that about a year ago.

You could always call to confirm if you wanted to shoot there.

Their website says FMJ ball ammo only.

I drive past several ranges to get from my house to OC Indoor. They even sold me a box of HP's to put through a rental gun because I'd never shot HP's before, most ranges only let you use the cheap reload stuff.

No BS, no gang-bangers, no stupid ammo rules.

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

Wow no HP? The thought never even occurred to me. I shoot at on target an they are cool with whatever ammo you have as long as it goes bang. Now since they are a indoor range if you want to shoot a rifle there you have to get rifle certified, mostly an insurance thing for them. The one shot per second rule is kind of a bummer but Id rather have that than some newbie next to me putting holes in the ceiling.
