Cleaning after every range trip?

My LWRCI carbine has made me lazy (and spoiled). I clean about every 3rd range trip. About 1200 rounds. My M&P has never failed me once.

Overkill? You bet.

Just wipe it down, pull a boresnake, and make sure it's well lubed. That shouldn't take more than 5 mins, right?

I clean all of my guns after firing them. I find Hoppe's #9 to be an aphrodisiac!

I clean every time back from the range, because they're my babies. Happy guns will server you well, and will keep you clean against the BG.

thats why many top accuracy shooters dont use solvent to clean their bores. some use wet patch with mineral spirits, some use simple green. some may only run patches with water to get rid of the carbon residue.

I just spray some CLP into my barrel and run a boresnake through until it's clean. But this is just on my Glock barrels which I don't really care about.

I haven't cleaned my AR barrel yet, still looking at cleaning supplies and trying to find the right things to buy.

I clean after every range visit = 100-200 rounds. I enjoy the process, and NO, I don't worry about causing more wear by cleaning it so often. I don't do a full tear down and solvent cleaning but every 1000 or so rounds. For the everyday type cleaning, I use Balistol to wipe it down and clean the barrel, and then grease the rails. You guys that let your equipment go without even a field strip wipe down,... well, I hope you keep your b**ls cleaner than your guns!

i dont even think its really necessary for glock barrels. the polygonal rifling just dont lent it self to collect much of anything. plus center fire always burn way cleaner than rim fire.

the only problem that could happen is chamber transition dirt build up from excessive lubing. but even thats rare to almost impossible to achieve.

na, personally, i understand my gun enough where i know just exactly how dirty is too dirty before i will start having hickups. keep in mind that im talking about my 22s which is more finicky than most center fire pistol.

as far as my balls, it have so much hair on it i wont know where to start cleaning. matter of fact, i think its so hairy that i can even do a tee off on it.

There's a difference between neglect and proper maintenance. I keep all of my firearms, cars, computers, toys, and what ever else in working order. Going 1k rounds between a cleaning on a Glock is not neglect. Personally, if your gun can't go thousands of rounds without a cleaning, it's not a quality firearm.

I see people lube up their Glocks like they're getting ready to make love to them. There's a reason why you don't lube certain areas of the Glock, and for that very reason is why I don't have a problem with running my guns for at least a 1k rounds between any cleaning.

I also use grease and not oil, and this might be one of the biggest secrets to keeping a gun running for a long time.

Ok... Frequency of cleaning firearms is a matter of personal choice. Some prefer to clean more often than others. What ever your confortable with is your choice. Whatever method you subscribe to is just great if it works for you.

Of course it's a personal choice, what isn't?

I just find it funny how anal people are about cleaning their guns. If the gun comes out and gets shot and then is going back into the safe for another year or so, then yeah, give it a cleaning and wipe it down. If it's your normal range gun that gets used a lot, then just make sure it's lubed and keep running it. All these solvents and tear downs really do put wear on a firearm.
