    Cleaning after every range trip?

I've always cleaned my gun immediately after every range trip, even if only a box has been fired.

But is this necessary? Is it overkill? Can it wait a week or another range trip? Note only fresh factory ammo is used, no reloads or corrosive ammo.

If you go to range regularly, every week or every other week, don't worry too much about skipping a cleaning or two.

Why not clean it? Fondle your gun as much as possible. It's therapy.

This is my gun. There are many like it but this one is mine.

My pistol is used for defense, so I clean it as soon as I get my range stuff put away. My rifles get cleaned within 3 or 4 days. It gives me an excuse to fondle guns in the middle of the week.

Unless the humidity is extreme, powder fouling won't cause corrosion. I'll put a patch of Slip2000 EWL down the bore before I leave the firing line, just to be sure, though. I switched to Slip2000 EWL for lubrication and Mpro7/Hoppe's Elite for cleaning, and the little lady doesn't mind me cleaning guns in the house anymore. I can even get her into it. Even more reason for gun cleaning.

I take a shower. Stuff that shot corrosive ammo gets a boiling water bath and a solvent swab.

I will take it apart and clean it even if I put only one mag or even one round through the gun....

I usually clean after every trip to the range. But I have to admit, I have skipped it a couple of times, with no ill effects (except it's takes a little extra effort next time I clean it).

Yes I hate that white carbon buildup on the muzzle.

I guess, to be clear, other than those I mentioned above, no I don't. Lots of other stuff to do, and it is a waste of time. I squirt some oil in the old EDC after I blow out the lint, sometimes. I suppose there is .0001 more chance that something won't work the next time I take it out, but I can't find anyone to take the one million to one bet on that.

My range guns get cleaned roughly every 1000 rounds. My HD weapons stay at home meticulously clean during rotations to the range.

                            Overkill? You bet.

Just wipe it down, pull a boresnake, and make sure it's well lubed. That shouldn't take more than 5 mins, right?
