Taurus did not make the frame mounted safety. Taurus just decided to leave the safety where it was.

Taurus is the one who bought the machining from Beretta to make the PT-92 in Brazil.
This is correct, Beretta won a contract in Brazil to produce the 92, when they completed the contract, they sold the factory intact.

The Beretta 92, when I first enter America had the frame mounted thumb safety, but it had the mag release on the side of the grip at the heel of the butt frame.

The Tauri have always had their mag release behind the trigger guard

Love mine in stainless keep in mind it is warrantied for the life of the gun no matter how many owners. Only thing I don't like is the trigger pull.

Got one of the old ones with butt mag release. Nice solid gun.

No reason to avoid the Taurus PT92. It's a good solid pistol.

I bought one of the pimp guns. I absolutly love it!! The only issue is its so pretty I don't like to shoot it as much as I should. The imitation pearl grips are a bit wider than normal 92 grips, and the gun has a wider feel to it. Its a good shooter, but I would love to get a trigger job on it to make it just wee bit lighter. Its already pretty crisp, but not a 1911 yet.

Not absolutely sure, but I think that anyone pondering this hasn't tried a CZ75.

Actually that was on my list but the stainless model is so damn expensive and my "LGS" said they are hard to order with 10 rd mags...

+1 Definitely go with the Beretta. Why go for the cheap clone instead of the real thing. For only $100 more you can get one of the best handguns made.

Taurus PT-99 Good choice. Adjustable sights and fancy wood grips.

I disagree with those Beretta snobs who say the Taurus is just a "cheap clone". Obviously they've never touched one. I have. They are both virtually the same except the Taurus frame mounted safety is better.
