It never bothered me because I thought all gun display cases have bullet proof glass...

I've yet to hear of a single case where a gun sitting on a shelf fired itself or "just went off!" As such, I am unconcerned about how they are displayed.

There is a point where the scrupulous adherence to a rational "rule", in an unthinkingly rote fashion and devoid of context, becomes an irrational, debilitating fear. I suggest that this instance is one such case.

I *guarantee* that everyone who's ever toted a long gun in a case has pointed that case -- and hence the weapon -- at something they would not want to destroy. Think about rifle racks in trucks as well -- people walk past them all the time.

It doesn't bother me at all.

I am more worried of the massive black hole discovered at the center of our Milky Way which was discovered by many well-known scientist and could devour whole worlds in about 2 billions years!

I don't see why everyone is jumping on the OP for being observant about gun safety. I mean it's not an issue if the shop is half competent, but would you rather someone be over cautious or be one of those idiots who say "don't worry it's not loaded" while muzzle sweeping everybody?

It's kind of weird to see them like that, I guess. I have more of an issue with customers (had a guy laser me who had just walked out of the range) with his revolver / cylinder not swung out....kinda freaked me out...

We can think that it is safe, but to assure yourself treat them all as if they were loaded. We know that guns don't shoot themselves, so you have little to worry about. If you ask to see a certain firearm simply step out of the way while the employee retrieves it. You can't expect everyone to follow the rules (of safe gun handling), but you can strictly demand it from yourself. Treat every other person, handling a firearm, as a rookie.

It scares me. I'm afraid they might go off and shoot me. But then i don't go to gun stores because i'm afraid of guns.

Thank you very much. Now i have to worry about getting shot every time i pass one of those stupid UPS or FedEx trucks.

I agree with the OP. Turn those guns sideways, so i can look at them proper! Ah the safety thing, i bet the gun store has a cable tied to each one and if some one robs the store they pull the cable providing covering fire in the store in handgun buck shot while they grab the loaded pistols they carry and finish anything left moving. Thou i could be wrong.

OP, i feel bad for you! All the love your getting.

dont forget, they can pull the strings on the rifles / shotguns to take out the getaway chopper too!
