XD or M&P

Just from reading all the comments, most people that voted for XD because that is the gun they own not because they have shot both or own both.

I own both. I originally owned my XDs first, then bought an M&P later. After the M&P purchase, I still choose the XD as my primary pistol for home defense, competition, and casual range trips. The ergonomics of the grip are better for me than the M&P, and I prefer the XD's balance. I prefer the M&P for CCW because it is a little more streamlined.

M&P. I like XD's, but I finally shot an M&P with the Apex goodies and it's WAY better IMHO

How about an Apples to Apples comparison? Did you try the XD with the Springer trigger parts?

If you compare a tuned XD to a tuned M&P, I prefer the XD. But, again, the difference is minute enough that it just comes down to personal choice.

I've shot an XD worked over by Springer Precision and it did shoot well for me, but I don't like the XD platform for other reasons I've stated previously.

I've heard nothing but good things for the M&P with Apex upgrades. Not so much with the XD and similar upgrades. Cosmetics wise I'd go M&P. Reliability wise I have nothing but praise for the XDs (I've owned 3 btw). Flip a coin or better yet try both for yourself and you decide

I won a xd tactical 9mm and i love it, springer precision makes trigger parts you can install or you can send it to them. I'm also a glock guy owning like every model. Oh yea have my m&p 9 paid off next week and 10 days after that i'll know how they all shoot

The XD made it to my top 3 when I was choosing. I liked it, but I bought M&P. Two reasons I chose it: The ergonomics of the M&P made more comfortable to shoot, and I shot it more accurately. Simple decision for me.

I currently own a XDm45 and a M&P45c. I've owned an XD9 and an XD40 at one point in time. Tomorrow, I'll be doing and FTF with another Calgunner for an M&P45 4".

To me, based on no mods, the trigger on the M&P feels better. i didn't like the long reset on the XDs I owned and thought they fixed it with the XDm. Nope! The M&P is less "mushy" too.

I will end up getting trigger work done on the XDm before I give up on it. I will also do the same on at least one of the M&Ps to see what all the rave is on the Apex trigger.

Also to me, there was no difference in felt recoil between the compact M&P45 versus my XDm45. I also shot both equally well.

Only my humble opinion.......

BTW, I'll be at San Leandro Gun Range tomorrow around 3:30pm. If anyone wants to try out my guns, you're welcome to. I'll have the XDm45, M&P45c, SR9c, G19 and possibly one of my 1911s. You just bring your own ammo.

M&P feel smoother and solid. Also the most ergonomic grip I have ever felt (stock or otherwise). Like a glove.

XD have some cool features, come with a bunch of accessories included, and I like the compacts with the mag extension option.

Either way they're nice. If I was going to buy only one right now it would probably be the M&P.
But the XD do come in OD Green frame, which is always nice.

If you can find the stainless slide M&P, those are super nice looking. They were a limited run (I think for Cabelas). I think they might be off-roster here though.

No amount of research can replace actually firing them both and seeing what fits you.
That being said I love my .40 XD
I don't know any other way to explain it other than it feels tight. Everything is fit together perfectly and it functions smoothly and flawlessly.

No surprises here, plenty of votes for both sides.
Personally I rented them before trying them, and fell in love with the m&p. No regrets buying it, decided on the .40 cal.

Cannot say any about the M&P. I just rented a XD tactical (5 inch barrel) in both 9 mm and 40 S&W. Great guns to shoot and accurate. I just finished DROS'ing the 9 mm version.

The XD Tactical is accurate because the muzzle is closer to the target.
I have S&W .40, Spg 1911, G21 and G36 then the XD45 seems like I end up shooting the XD most of the time.
