Why not rent both and see which one you like?

      I am impartial to XD.

I vote M&P and here is a nice video of why? I'd get one in any caliber but this video was about the 40cal.

I'd go with the M&P or a Glock period!

I've owned both. I prefer the m&p (after the apex upgrades). If you are picky about your triggers you will probably not like the XD (even the XDm) there is noticeable creep when compared with the m&p (even in stock mode). The XD has a higher bore axis and non-interchangeable backstraps. I am not the biggest fan of the jointed trigger on the m&p but i'll take it over the XDs mushy trigger. Theoretically makes a difference with followup shots when rapid firing, but i personally haven't done it enough to find it appreciable. I am also more comfortable with the robust beavertail on the m&p. With that said i will put in the common phrase: "shoot both and choose for yourself"...

+1. I've got the XD9 Service. Nice ergos (wife likes it as well). Shoots straight with no issues.

Should have made this a poll. Having owned both, I'd vote M&P.

If you get the XD anyway, watch out for that big slide lock lever, it's exactly where your thumb tends to be. Glock has the smallest (as it should be IMO), M&P is not obtrusive.

Another one for the XD! If I could only find a service model in 45acp locally, id buy it today!

Those who prefer the XD, do you have any experience with the M&P?

Both are worthwhile and trustworthy guns. Find a range that rents them both, try them, then buy the one you shoot the best. You won't go wrong with your choice.
