The following reflects my experiences only, and each firearm is different, proceed at your own risk.

    Factory .38 Super is a semi-rimmed, 9 x 22.5 case.

    9 x 23 is rimless.

I've run 9 x 23 through Colt and Kimber .38 Supers, using the factory Super barrel and magazine, with no other changes, without problems.

    Ymmv.

I changed over the slide on the two tone in the pic because I was able to purchase a complete Colt 9 x 23 conversion top end for a good price, along with a bunch of dedicated 9 x 23 mags - I was interested to see if there was any duifference in accuracy between running the 23 through the Super chamber, and a barrel chambered specificly for the 23 - and no, I haven't tried running Super through the 23 chamber, but I don't see where it would be a problem.

The link I posted to Burns is really the best single source of info on the 23, and eventually I'll send him one of my Colts for the full treatment.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

I fired my new-to-me LW Commander .38 Super for the second time yesterday and it's official: I love this pistol. I've already ordered a 9mm barrel so I can shoot cheaper, I'll be ordering a set of dies so I can afford to shoot the Super more. And now you've gotten me interested in the 9x23.

Thanks for your information B Strong, it's obvious I'm going to be messing around with this pistol for some time.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

          bling bling

anyway, took mine out today and aside from the front sight too low (hitting high at 10m), runs great with ball ammo, not quite reliable with hp yet, but feeds fine with half filled magazine.

Nice. I heard those bright stainless steel 38 supers(your Colt Custom) get scratched REAL easy. Is that true?

I have not fired it much but I clean it with a silicon cured cloth and it has not gotten scratched yet

That would be me and here is the gun:

...shown here with Hakan Pek grips; I have since reinstalled the original grip safety (not shown here) and also put some Colt medallion grips on her as well. It's a great shooter - my wife's favorite gun, too.

I've also got a Sig P220 in .38 Super that I bought a decade ago. Another fun gun - can't say enough good things about the cartridge -- flat-shooting and hard-hitting!

I recommend shooting more ball before going to the hollow points. Don't have much experience with RIA's but your gun might have a "break in" period.

that's what i normally do, but i do mix in a few hps every now and then to check for feeding. i'm around 500 rds, so should be broken in or will be very soon. i'm not too worried about hp feeding, i have other handguns and a shotgun for hd purposes, but it never hurts to know how well this baby feeds.
