You're in Nevada though man. A bit more expensive on this side of the wall. If I could get it at $20/box I'd shoot it all the time.

Wait til the new ammo law comes in effect. That way you'll have a reason. Save your ammo cash, then spend spend spend

I have an old Colt S70 1911 Government which was my IPSC gun back in the late 80's through the 90's. I have well over 100,000 rounds through it. Other than a minor crack in the frame near the recoil channel it still shoots dead center. I liked the .38 Super round much better than 9 mm or .45 ACP back then. The only problem with .38 Super is finding ammo and you really need to reload to enjoy the Super. It was my Super that got me started in reloading 20 some odd years back. I still remember my receipe of 125 gr LRN over a change or AA#7....man those were the days . Another issue is .38 Super is not the type of round that you find a lot of people outside of the competitive circle shooting so chances are that you will not be able to find range pick up brass to load. This is the primary reason I do not shoot my Super that much anymore because I used to have over 5,000 cases but am now down to ~ 1,000 cases. Back in the 90's you could buy 1,000 primed brass from starline for $80. Now, it's more like $200 for the same amount. It seemed like every time I shot it I lost half my brass. I know that's a sorry excuse but I hate loosing hard/expensive brass.

Otherwise, I really like how the .38 Super shoots especially out of a 1911 platform. I shot a Sig chambered for the Super and was not as thrilled with it.

Shop around I find .38super ammo here and there at $20 or less a box otd at guns shows and such, odd lots and such. .38super really should be reloaded for but I have a bad back and I'm lazy don't like to pick up brass.

.38 Super ballistics are supposed to be real similar to .357 right?

                Couple questions...

So as far as changing to a 9mm its as simple as getting the 9mm barrel fitted?

                Also

Quality on the Taurus 38 supers... Seems like a good deal for the price (buds has em for just over $500)

                Thanks fellas

Yessir, with the exception that .357 sig is much louder. 38 Super sounds nice even without earplugs.

You will need a 9mm magazine also. Sometimes 9mm feeds from a .38 super mag but not always reliably in my experience.

.38super can't match the hottest most wicked .357mag loads and unfortunately is usually watered down by most manufactures to a 9mm +P at best. Ever notice .38super ammo usually comes in nickle cases and is marked +P?

It's because it was to make it look different from .38acp (not .380acp)which was dimentionally the same but loaded weaker was chambered in an older Colt auto thats been out of production since 1929 or so and in some Spanish guns that could take it like some Astra 400s.

Probably some manufactures still scared people will fire .38super out of such guns and download because of it. I believe 9mm Largo is the same as .38super but lacks the semi rim. I believe 9x23 Win is just a real hot largo round.

I have a .38super rifle of sorts, the Spanish destroyer carbine. It's chambered in largo but I fired some weak loaded .38super in it w/o too many issues as well as in a Astra 400 that was marked 9mm/.38 for .38acp ammo. I may have chipped the extractor on the rifle though unfortunately. I do NOT recommend firing .38super ammo out of largos and plase don't try 9x23 win in a largo.

                          Heres my Colt

Out of all my guns its my favorite shooter . The ammo is expensive so I reload. And if I had to buy some ammo I would buy it from the gun show for $10 a box of 50. No name brand in plain white box nickel plated boxer primed brass. But that was before the Obama scare. Im in the process of making some cast reloads to test out. Other guns I have 45 SA, 357 mag,and 9mm walther p5 .
Other handguns I plan on getting this year hopefully are

Masterarms mac 10 before its get banned or something.
                          Glock 9mm.

I think Turners does stock .38super ammo in some stores at a very high price.
