Best value 1911?

Thanks, I'm very happy with it. My hands are average size (at least thats what I tell my old lady) but I have experimented with every combination of mainspring housing and trigger reach and grip size and find that I shoot the short msh, short trigger, slim grip 1911's the best. Must be the angle and position of my trigger finger when I pull. I also have better recoil control with that set up.

Yes they are very good guns for the price. No argument.

Some others have said guns such as Les Baer or Nighthawk, but I think that defeats the purpose the OP was gong for;

...or just spending thousands of dollars for the base gun.

My opinion may cause others to fidget, but I DO own a Les Baer Thunder Ranch and a Premier, among several other "high-end" 1911s (but no Nighthawks yet ) and besides all of them, two of my favorite/most accurate for the low-cost factor 1911s have been a Smith & Wesson 1911PD which I got on sale a few years ago for $750 (the scandium model) and a Springfield 1911 GI model that I got for $550 (forged frame, and nice tight tolerances for the low cost).

Both of the former shoot as well as my Thunder Ranch model. Very few low-cost 1911s will do as well, and I can't even be sure other S&W or Springfield GI models would do as well as these two, but these two have proven well beyond their worth.

Thanks you guys - this is why I am researching first. I am the type who would spend extra for quality, but this time I have to take it slow, break in the .22, then when I have a justifiable amount of extra cash I can get the handgun. I don't know, the SA GI is in a close running for 1st place - thanks for the input.

If you can shoot any 45 like this at 21 yds, it's a keeper. Great shooting.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure it was 21 but may have been 14. It was awhile back. I

know for sure it was benched which is why I'm think it was 21. I rarely shoot

benched at 14. In fact I've only done it once when sighting in a crimson trace.

Solid advice! I recently sent my SA G.I. to Cylinder and Slide for the "Trident" build. They will only use the SA G.I. as a base model for custom builds. 1911's are addicting and you will more than likely own more than one eventually. Many custom makers consider the SA the best production base model.

How much for the Trident build?

So if I found a used Dan Wesson PM7 for just under $1k, like $980 after shipping/DROS etc...would that be a deal to jump on?

It is a good deal if the gun is perfect. I paid $1,100.00 total for a new DW PM7 in December, 2009. It was the best deal I could find.

I paid $1200.00 for a Brand new PM 7 which I bought last month, I know the price is on the high side but being hard to find made me jump on it, and I have no regret at all

I also have an RIA TAC which is a good shooter and that I consider the best value 1911.
