Cast Frames? Kimber frames and slides are forged....What 1911 manufacture doesn't use MIM parts when building a production pistol under $1000 or even more? All of my friends with Kimbers have never had any reliability issues with their pistols, Ever.

Btw, I picked up a Kimber Custom II for $782otd which included shipping from Bud's and dros at my local GS. A fantastic deal for a good 1911.

I'm happy for them, but there are plenty of documented function issues with kimbers at each of the 1911 forums.

There is a Springfield group buy going on right now on calguns and you can get one for under 1k. I think it was even under 700, Thats what I would do

I know, I am A 1911forum member. If you actually look at every manufacture they each have their fair share of issues. Kimber's main issue always reverts back to the magazine, And yes the stock mag is a piece of crap. Surprising because their Tac-Mags are top notch.

Don't get a sub-1000$ Springfield. The loaded models really just aren't that great and for the money the Kimbers are far nicer guns. Don't listen to the haters about the Rock Islands. They are fantastic guns in their price range and an excellent value. I've got one, I love it.

When you start hitting about the $1500 mark, your options really open up to some very high quality guns, but you're also talking more than $1500. This is the price point where the Springfields really come into their own. At this price point you can start getting "custom" guns as well.

If it's your first 1911 and you know you want one but are looking for value, I would HIGHLY recommend a Kimber.

If it's your first 1911 and you're a little iffy and maybe aren't totally sure, pick up a Rock Island. You'll have a lot of fun with it and won't regret the purchase should you decide later on to get a higher-end 1911.

So if I found a used Dan Wesson PM7 for just under $1k, like $980 after shipping/DROS etc...would that be a deal to jump on?

Best sub $500 gun... Rock Island Tactical.

I have one, and shot my friends springfield TRP. The TRP is a better gun no doubt, but for more than twice the price of my RIA tactical?... I'm happy saving money and still having a decent 1911

Oh and just for clarification, what I meant by better was the TRP shot tighter groups, about .25" at 15 yards. It also feels nicer, but again thats all preference. My RIA is as sturdy as any other 1911 and it isn't "loose" contrary to popular belief. I don't hear a thing if I shake it.

Yes!! Considering they are well over 1k...And a mighty fine pistol.

Dan wessons are the best value for the $$$ spent. I have over the years shot everything from accurized WWII surplus 1911, Colt Gold cups, Kimbers, Dan Wessons and Wilson combats. The Wilsons were real nice but I am not sure there is a $1000.00+ imporvement to justify the cost over the Dan wesson Pointman. Dan Wessons are that good . (9mm 1911s are nice to shoot and cost less to practice with.

An after thought,,,Glocks and Springfield XDs do everything a 1911 will do and cost a third of the price and can be repaired on the kitchen table without fitting parts or special tools. And probably will shoot more rounds before a failure. Plus you can buy 3 Glocks of Springfields for the cost of a Dan Wesson or an equal 1911. But then every gun lover usually need at least one 1911 just because. Since you have a 10/22 how about a 45/22 ruger pistol lots of fun cheap to shoot accurate and Ruger strong.
