Awsome, I started a zombie awareness revolution hahaha. We all need a plan for a zombie senario where all the calgunners meet up in 1 spot with guns, ammo, food, supplies, guns, ammo, or yeah and did I mention guns and ammo?

Zombies?

Technically, wouldn't Jesus be a zombie?I am a follower of Christ, and Im convienced that there already ARE living dead walking amongst us.
Ephesians 2:1-5
"And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)," (Eph. 2:1-5, NKJV).
To sum up the question, I would be armed with The Word, sharper than a 2 edged sword:
Hebrews 4:12 (New International Version)
12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Remember yall, that the fight is not against flesh and blood:
Ephesians 6:12 (New International Version)
12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
For all else, 7.62, 12 gauge, hollow point pistol anything.

Max brooks is a joke. I will admit that some of his techniques seem useful but when he starts to talk about which guns to choose and not choose he says some stupid things, like shotguns and pistols are useless and the only weapons worth carrying are a semi-auto rifle and a machette. They are good weapons but hardly the best. Id take my 590A1 over a rifle, unless head shots arent required then give me a M4 minus the bullet button of course and ill have some fun!Comment

not really, here on calguns there is a SHTF, TEOTWAWKI (end of world), or zombie thread about 2 times a week. and on some weeks, it goes as high as 5 (usually long weekends)
cruise the off-topic section and you will see it.

I think the best idea to fend of the zombies during the apocalypse would be flamethrowers due to the ability of much of a spread you can get. Yea shooting zombies would work but after a while the bodies will pile up and create zombie wall which will thus eventually fall on you trapping you but if you just burn them to ashes you don't have to worry about it. You can blow them up with explosives but flammable things are more easily accesable. One would think going to a deserted island might work to survive but the zombies would create a zombie bridge and your ****ed.Comment

"Stopping power" doesn't translate the same way against zombies as it does against humans. Max Brookes is right on. It doesn't matter if you have a .50 BMG, an electric mini-gun, or claymore mines around your perimeter if you don't take out the brain. You can chop a zombie in half but it can still crawl and pose a danger. You can literally take out chunks of the torso but it'll still keep coming. There is no CNS when it come to zombies except the brain. According to Zombie Survival guide and the accounts given in World War Z the most effective firearm is a .22 rifle and .22 handgun which will allow you to make precise head shots and allow you to carry a lot of rounds. A .223/5.56 mm rifle like an AR or Mini-14 with a scope for longer ranges. The fatigue of making head shots of hundreds to thousands of rounds from a heavy rifle or shotgun can also be a big negative. Effective volume of fire and mobility is key when potentially facing a horde that can overwhelm you (potentially thousands to tens of thousands if you stay in one place long enough. zombies signal other zombies and are attracted to noise from miles away). Best mode of transport is a bicycle which will allow you to move relatively silently and maneuver quickly enough for tactical advantage.
Flame throwers and molotov cocktails can be useful in certain scenarios but if they are on fire they can pose an even greater danger by lighting fires to whatever they come into contact. Not good if you are on the upper floor of a building or roof. Those burning zombies will end up setting your structure on fire.Last edited by ianS; 09-20-2010, 12:02 PM.Comment

I'd think the 17 HMR would be better choice in a rimfire but all the good rifles in that caliber are bolt actions. Since fighting zombies is more about style than substance it's not enough to be effective, you also have to look cool. For all those praising the 10/22; I must be missing something. How is a 22 considered a good, accurate, long range gun? Yeah ammo is cheap, but the round is hardly a killer of anything. You would have to hit a very small sweet spot in the head with one of those. A glancing blow with 223, 308, or other centerfire rifle ammo would do the deed. Again, maybe iam missing something.
So, the 10/22 is a better zombie killer than the Savage 93R17. In fact a 10/22 with a Choate stock is superior to the plain jane 10/22.
The limit of the willing suspension of disbelief for any given element is directly proportional to its degree of coolness.Politicians and criminals are moral twins separated only by legal fiction.Comment

its not a myth, i've used .22L to put down horses, dogs, cows, sheep, pigs, and of course other land based critters. the mobile butchers use the same for a reason. it will penetrate the skull, and instantly turn the brain to mush, and not exit, avoiding contamination of the rest of the carcass. i would definetly want some sort of semi auto .22l in my Z fighting stash.sigpicComment

That depends on what zombies we are talking about for the original Night of the living dead then head shots are a must so the .22 would be great although a lot of .22 boxes have duds. But if we are talking about say 28 days later zombies then they would die the same as humans where a .22 would still serve a purpose but at the same time a .223 or 12 gauge would drop the average person in 1 shot. Where as the .22 might not. Ive seen people that have been shot with a .22 and didnt even realize it until several hours later. Obviously it wasnt in a vital area but still. Now if your shot with a .223 or 12 gauge your going to feel it instantly

28 days later zombies scare the crap out of me. We're talking about a virus that can infect you way too easily, they're fast, and even possess some intelligence. No fun. Unimaginable nightmare where small arms of any kind would give me little to no comfort. These "infected" are much harder to stop with even effective CNS shots than an avg. human so brain shots would still be the most effective way of stopping them. But it would be more difficult to impossible to make such shots because of their speed. We're talking about "zombies" that seem to run on pure adrenaline and rage. Like trying to kill a horde assailants all pumped up with coke, meth, and speed. At least with Romero's type of slow moving "brain dead" zombies like in Max Brooke's "accounts" I feel like I have some kind of fighting chance because they have more weaknesses. Remember neither types "feel", do not feel fear, will never feel tired, and will not give up no matter how horrific their injuries are, unless you manage to completely take them out of the game.Last edited by ianS; 09-20-2010, 3:30 PM.Comment
