G17 vs. G19

My first gun was a Glock 17. Five years later I sold it and bought a glock 19.

G19.

As mentioned by others, it is the most versatile of the 9mm Glocks: concealable and still shoots just as good as the G17.

If I want to go for a 9mm Glock that can outshoot the G19 in the accuracy department, I'll go for the G17L or the G34.

I went for the 17 due to im never gunna conceal it. Also a gun thats 1" smaller wont benefit me at home for personal protection.

I used to own a Gen 2 Glock 19 and now recently bought a Gen 3 Glock 17 RTF2. Im definatly happier with the 17 since I shoot targets and go to the desert with it. To me I see no point in buying the smaller version since im going to shoot it alot, and dont need to ccw. The 17 is the perfect size, not too small, and still not very big

Some say to get the 23 (.40 same frame and slide size) and buy a 9 conversion kit from Lonewolf.

I have the 22, couldn't I just buy the Glock OEM 9mm barrel instead of the lonewolf and shoot it?

Been thinking about this debate for a while, going back and forth.

Trying to choose one, I can get the G17 for a tiny bit cheaper. Both fit my hands fine, I shoot both the same and they feel equally comfortable. I do like the full size, but already have a few other full size 9's. I don't remember which one I was more accurate with, but I am sure they would be close. Just don't know what size I want.

Anyone that used to be in the same dilemma?

I had the same dilemma when I was looking between the two and I ended up getting the G19. They were both comfortable to hold. The G19 fit my hand perfect. The G17 hung out the bottom of my hand some, but it pointed very naturally and was very comfortable to hold. When it came down to mag capacity though, it seemed unnecessary to have the extra grip length without any added mag capacity (in CA). I still went back and forth for a while but ended up choosing the G19 and haven't regretted it one bit. I have considered getting a G17 also but can't really justify a purpose for it and I know it would just sit in the safe.

I generally like to have guns that are more of a concealable size. If I was going to have the gun for strictly range use and I was allowed to have full capacity magazines, I would probably get a G17 over a G19.

You need to get a 40-9 conversion barrel because the outside diameter of the 9mm barrel is less than the diameter of a .40 barrel. The conversion barrels have the same outside diameter of the .40 barrel but are chambered for 9mm.

I went through this "dilemma" (as if choosing between two more toys could be a dilemma!) and wound up with a G19. Why? I already had two full-size 9mm pistols, a CZ-75B, and a Beretta 92FS. Didn't feel like the G17 (or the G34 for that matter) would give me anything my other nines didn't provide (except to provide them with an ugly sister).

I went to the range, rented a G19, and although I never did like Glocks before that, I was very impressed afterward. I also rented the G17, just for comparison, but it seemed to me that the G19 balanced better in my hand than the full sized G17.

Other than it's Gawd-awful looks and it's IKEA plasticity, the G19 is just a great, great gun. Like an ugly sports car that just feels and performs *right* to you. The crunchy safe action trigger takes a bit of getting used to, but since I also shoot my S&W 66 quite a lot in DA mode, I just think of the Glock as a double action revolver that has a box magazine instead of a revolving cylinder. Great gun in all respects, (except looks) and if I had to have a competition for "which will be my one and only gun?" it would be hard to justify why the G19 wouldn't win it.
