G17 vs. G19

Been thinking about this debate for a while, going back and forth.

Trying to choose one, I can get the G17 for a tiny bit cheaper. Both fit my hands fine, I shoot both the same and they feel equally comfortable. I do like the full size, but already have a few other full size 9's. No intent to CCW, maybe holster around the house. I don't remember which one I was more accurate with, but I am sure they would be close. Just don't know what size I want.

Anyone that used to be in the same dilemma?

I was, and I went for a 17. My reasoning was this:

The 19 is the swiss army knife of guns. It can CCW, it can compete, it can open a beer can, and so on. Reality checking, I didn't want my *** in prison for half a year for illegally CCWing, so CCW was out, and my big manly hands were a little too big for the 19. Most men I know prefer the 17. Most women I know prefer the 19.

It was also a question of if I bought another Glock, would I feel like I was buying an overlapping or unnecessary gun? If I had a 19, and bought a 17, I'd just have something a widdle bit bigger. If I had a 19, and bought a 26, I'd have something a widdle bit smaller. The difference wouldn't be huge, so I'd feel like a bit of a ham.

Knowing that I wasn't going to use it, ever, for CCW, I went with a 17. I'm kind of butthurt I didn't go for a 34 at the time. If CCW ever becomes a viable option in this state, I'll get a 26, and be fully satisfied with it.

Get the Glock 19

It's the Mid Size 9mm....and the most popular.

Some say to get the 23 (.40 same frame and slide size) and buy a 9 conversion kit from Lonewolf.

I've shot a couple hundred round thru a 23 with the conversion kit...not a problem. Of course 9mm is cheaper than .40...but .40 is such a good defense round. etc...

I'm having this exact same issue. Cant decide between the two and I only want 1.

I think I'm gonna go with the G17 in RTF2 or Gen4 (not regular gen 3)

The 19 seems a little bit too small for my tastes. I didn't like how part of the back of my hand is off the grip.

In the future I plan on ccw but not everyday carry so the G17 should be ok in the winter/fall, If I was gonna carry every day I would not carry a G17. I have only shot the G19 and the G21. The G17 isn't as thick or big as I thought. Even though the G21 is 45acp I was under the impression that all the full size Glocks were gonna be thick but I was wrong. This past wednesday I got to compare 3 G17's, the RTF2, GEN4 and the regular one. I'm gonna go with either the RTF2 or the GEN4. I'm gonna compare them one last time when i go pick up my M6.

The Gen4 has a slightly slimmer grip than the Gen3, especially with the slim back strap.

I can always get a G19 later when I ACTUALLY get a CCW anyways. This wont be happening in the immediate future.

We currently have a 92FS but I need a super rugged "I don't give a ****" type of gun, I don't like to abuse any of my full metal/blued guns. This is the spot only a Glock can fill.

I carry a 17 on duty and carry a 19 off duty. Both are excellent pistol, but I would choose the 19 over the 17. My personel reasoning and experience behind is the 19 for a compact is as accurate and durable as the 17. When I went to qualify to carry the 19 for on duty, I found myself to be even more accurate. It shoots and operates like a full size glock. I like the compact grip size even though it has -2 less rounds and when I ccw it does not print. If you get the chance try shooting both of them and decide. The glock itself is weapon that you can depend on. You won't go wrong with either.

I agree with barca101's experience(I don't CCW though). For me 19 just felt better and shot the same compared to 17. There is nothing wrong with a Glock 17. If that is what you like, go for it.

Well, I CCW a G19, but shoot competition with a G17. If you only have one , get a G17. This is my opinion from owning over a dozen Glocks and shooting every weekend (with Glocks) for the last 18 years. Current inventory is 3 17's, G20, G31, G24, G19, G23. Past included 2 G21's, G26, G34, G17L, G30, G22.

I have had both. I currently have the 17. Is one more accurate than the other? Probably not in any way that would be perceptible to you and me. Both guns can shoot better than I do. I have the 17 because I just like full sized pistols. It is my HD gun and I feel confident with it. I would feel the same with a 19. I don't currently own a 19 but I will soon. Why? Because I love Glocks.

Bottom line, either way you are good. The 19 might be smaller but it isn't MUCH smaller

Fo some reason I shot the 19 more accurately than the 17. I own a 19 and plan on getting a 17 or 34 at some point since I am now used to Glocks and shoot them all very accurately.
