Reopening Part Deux! We have a more powerful server, twice the CPU and four times the RAM.
I'm kind of afraid to say this but... let's stress test this thing!
I'm selling my Sig (supposedly the holy grail of pistols) for another Glock 19 (which I sold earlier this year). Just something about the Glock 19 that feels right. I hated the high bore axis of the Sig and the DA/SA trigger
"If you're not ready to die for it, put the word 'freedom' out of your vocabulary."
If no plans to ccw might as well get the benefit of a longer sight radius.
You wont even notice the difference between the 17 and 19, In terms of sight radius. I have owned both. The 5" Glock 34 is where a longer radius is noticeable.
The better debate IMO would be 19 or 34. I have no use for a 17, 34 is full size, about the same size as a 1911. 19 is good for carry when you don't want a full size.
go 22 and get a lone wolf 9mm conversion barrel. I reload 9 and have .40 just because. i liked the 2 calibers in one frame idea. of course you can go 23 with 9mm conversion too. if there are no plans to carry go full size.
Easier to carry on belt or IWB (even if just around the house).
Basically the same accuracy (and if you're going for crazy-good accuracy you should just get the model 34 for an extra $80)
The grip is effectively "full-size" even though the 19 is marketed as "compact." I have big hands, and the 17 doesn't give me better grip at all.
If you want the extra 2 rounds that the model 17 magazines would get you then just add a +2 baseplate to the model 19 magazines (or if you don't have pre-ban mags then you're stuck with 10 rounds either way so it doesn't matter).
Model 19 gives you everything you need, and it's more versatile than the larger models. The only reason to go bigger is if you are planning on competing and want the marginally better accuracy of the longer barrel and sight radius.
19 if you're gonna use it mainly for self defense and possibly carrying in the future or out of state.
17 if you're gonna punch paper or shoot competitions as well as home defense. Longer sight radius and heavier gun makes for a more accurate gun with better recoil management and higher scores.
While we're here arguing about the latest high tech running shoes, there's some Kenyan out there running barefoot. Guess who's gonna win the marathon?
There is no holy grail of guns. Only what works for the individual. SIG of yesterday was much closer to any holiness vs. the crap company of today.

I don't entirely agree, although you do make a good point. To me, on my first try-out range trip session w/ Glocks, the G17 and G19 did feel quite a bit different to me. I'm sure the 34 is even more accentuated but I have such a hard time w/ that stupid cut out slide. I really wish the G34's slide didn't have this or the melted front of the slide. For this reason alone I'm leaning toward the 17 over 34.
