Check Ca penal code 12026 or in that area. One may carry concealed while going to or from and while hunting and or on a fishing expedition!

      1911s

      I have owned a great deal of handguns, 45's, 40S&W, 44mags, 41, 357/38s,
32's 380, 9mms 25s, and 22mag/22LR. Out of all these various makes and models, my Springfield 1911 Gov is my ultimate choice of Self Defense weapon. It shoots great, makes a Big hole, and my wife can handle it as good as I can. This 1911 was purchased in the early 1980s, and the blued slide and any area that gets touched or rubbed are without finish, looks like hell, but if the times comes to burn powder to protect my life and family, Hands down the Springfield 1911 is the one that I carry....Just saw one retailed at $499.00 never fired......

Couple months ago, Turners had the Springfield Armory GI 45 for sale price of $570 (5" Government, Parkerized #PW9108LP). They are an excellent replica of the USGI issue 1911s. Although many will recommend the Mil-Spec model which costs just a bit more, and offers some improvment over the GI, mainly the sights (original GI sights are tiny)

Try Martin B. Retting in Culver City, old shop but decent selections & prices.
Buying a 1911's is an excellent choice of firearms, just plain & simple.

Turner's got more of the stainless ones into their warehouse a few weeks ago. I think they were Mil-Spec's and were around $650 but don't hold me to that

It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!

What's the "step" above the GI and Milspec, also what's out there for other gun manufactures?

The step above the Mil-Spec is the Loaded models. There are many in the Loaded line so you should take a look at http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?model=8 for more info.

I love my Springfield XD .45ACP, and someday I'll love my 1911.
