    Great platform the 1911... Timeless...

I feel the same about most pistols in this Fuchen State we live in. Single stacks carry well... Sig 239 or P6/225 or 232, SW 3913, walther PPKS german, Kahrs all of em. An extra mag is not bulky.
Single stack guns fit my hand generally better also...

    That said:
I've got my double stacks HK USP 45, SIG228, G19, Browning HP... Walther P99... but the one I always prefer is a single stack to carry and usually in 1911.

I Just purchased an old Gen1 Kimber "compact custom" it has an Officers grip length frame, but has a near commander size slide (4" slide.) All steel, for me this will be a good base gun to build into something wonderful and reliable. Sure only 7+1. I won't feel out gunned and I know I'm not...

This isn't mine but you get the idea.

Get a 1911 style gun... you should have at least one in your life.. Some will tell you they are done with them... I've been there and done that... Never comes true for me.. I always gravitate back to the design. And prefer it.. I had a Delta Elite as my only centerfire pistol for over 21 years... When it comes down to it.. Nothing else to me compares.. cept the Browning HiPower. and then that is #2 followed by the SIG 228. depending on which day it is...

Good on ya to figure it out! enjoy your 1911..

no doubt, what do you carry when you're out in the open waters. (Do you know of any links to gun laws on the water, or is it "follow the local, state laws).

drider.. I think you really are on to something.. the federal magazine ban almost killed the 9mm as a recreation/defense round and.. I would say.. It greatly increased the popularity of the 1911 platform and the 45 acp in general. It was not until the feds dropped the ban that the smaller calibers had a boost in popularity.

In Kalifornia.. I think that is sorta the case but with the feds dropping the ban.. Most who have 9mm or 40 are thinking that some day they will get to have hi capacity mags again.. Or.. they are hiding some they do have.

Open waters for me are no longer sadly Salt water.. So inland it's all the same. Not sure about the laws on off shore eventually you got to come back in... so I'd imagine it's all Kalifornia.. here anyways.

People who pay attention to such things say that people in the People's Republik tend to go .45ACP because of the standard cap ban. The theory is that the .45 gives more "value" per shot.

As for me, I selected the .45 because I fired both the 9mm & the .45 in the military. There was no question what caliber my own handgun was gonna be.

Having said that, the M9 really made me appreciate the DA/SA with decent sights. So I went KP90 rather than 1911, but a 1911 is probly gonna wind up in my safe eventually. I like old skool.

to me, 11 rounds of .45 is 11 rounds of .45. My car doesn't drive any worse when the tank isn't full.

I have 3 Paras in double stack. They fit my hands better. 9mm, .40 custom & a .45

Hi caps for the 40, I've owned it since '98. Use it for IPSC. Limited Division

10 rounders for the newer ones. use them for IDPA, ESP & CDP Divisions

Love them! I called Para last Monday, as 2 of the 10 round 45 mags broke. By Thursday I had new parts in the mail, for free.

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Another thing that attracts me to the 1911 platform of pistols is that when I buy one, I won't feel cheated out on California's magazine capacity ten round limit ban! Tell me what you all think, all your 1911 fans do/ did you think of this as an incentive to buy one of these fine pistols? For me when I buy one, I won't be thinking oh I could of got a 15rounder, or 17 rounder, or even dam 33 rounder for my Glock 9mm, etc. With a 1911, boom it's 7, 8, and a 10 rounder if you want and that is it!
LOL. I like the way you think. On the other hand, doesn't it tell you something why the 1911 basically has only 7 rds? It's because it's not meant for "supressive fire" , unlike some plastic hi caps that when you fire you hope and pray that it'll hit something. The 1911 has a very nice ergonomics too. A grip angle that points naturally!

My Father-in-law (great man) understands the value of the .45. There is a reason why it came to be. I have been told that it was used to stop Asian Pacfic people that were too hard core for lighter weight bullets. I think that your assessment is spot on.

I agree and also for the fact that 1911's are classic, reliable pistols.
