When I go pick up the guns I'll ask to see what he says. I have a feeling nothing would happen because he is an older guy(maybe mid-late 60's) and sounds like one of those guys who believe what he did is right regardless of what anyone else says. One of my friend told me he tend to close his shop whenever he wants and it would be closed for weeks at a time.
oh ok, I dont think I have ever been there but ill stay away. and yeah, I would say something. maybe print out some proof backing up what your gonna tell him. you kno, so you can back up your word and it dsnt sound like just an oppinion.

Until the costs are itemized and we hear back, there's no sense in making assumptions.
        What "$20+$20" are for?

Gun locks around $8 or so.

            kenjimatic,

Since you already paid, did you get a receipt? Is it itemized? If so, please post the itemized charges. That might clarify a few things.

WHOA WHOA WHOA. Kenjimatic, you need to clarify the Broadway Bait deal. Are they the ones that screwed you or just that Chris gave you the info? I can't see Chris overcharging and your other info about being closed for weeks at a time doesn't sound like them either. Please clarify before bad info gets spread about a good store.

I don't know if it'll be appropriate to name the store but its in North Highlands, right off of Watt Ave. A little bait and tackle shop.
OK, this is NOT Broadway Bait and Tackle. Broadway Bait is downtown Sac on Broadway Blvd. Lets make sure thats clear.

I think the store in question is Guns N Stuff. Pretty small shop. I haven't been there in years. The only other shop near it is Just Guns on the corner of Auburn and Watt. Too bad you didn't head over there. A couple of friends of mine did a PPT there and it went smoothly.

Just guns would be the place to be. If OP can prove he was overcharged on the transfer I would be willing to print out the PC regarding transfer fees and take it to the shop.

I know it's been covered already but here's a link regarding fee;s for transfers. Look at question #13 and #14 http://www.ag.ca.gov/firearms/pubfaqs.php

Anyone care to chime in on the edit here?

The gun has the ORIGINAL lock provided by the manufacturer. There are no other options. The safe affidavid only applies to long guns.

The most logical explanation of this transfer described by the OP is he unknowingly bought 2 locks for $10 ea. which he should be able to return after he takes ownership of the guns.

EDITED POST: Ok so I was told by a local FFL that the Safe affidavid only applies to long guns and that for handguns the lock options that I listed above apply. According to this http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/Cfl2007.pdf page 54-55 It seems to me that the affidavid would also apply to handguns. Anyone care to chime in on this?

There is another one off Watt. It's in Rio Linda and They don't sell guns any more just fishing stuff. Does the place look like it's attached to somebody's house and is there a propane tank that's painted like a bobber?

To me it doesn't sound that bad...yeah, $35 is the price you are supposed to get but until the DOJ enforces this with an iron fist you really cannot do much.

If the place was friendly and the transaction was smooth you lucked out...I've been to places that charged $35 and it didn't go smooth and the people weren't friendly.

The way I look at it..support a local business as long as it's reasonable and they are friendly. $20 is nothing but a couple drinks at a bar..
