A friend of a friend was selling his 2 berettas(92fs and 92compact), so I decided to pick up both of them for $775. They look like they only been shot a couple hundred rounds each. The owner of the guns suggested for us to go to an FFL that was closer to him because he has never been there before, I never been there too so I decided it wasn't a bad idea because I wanted to check out the place too. I filled out the paper work and everything went smoothly until the FFL told me how much it was to do the transfer. "Since you're DROS'ing 2 I gave you a discount and it will be $90 for the transfer of both guns" said the FFL. I'm only 26 and almost had a heart attack. I asked the FFL nicely since he gave me a "discount" how much was the cost of a transfer if I only did 1, he replied "it's $50 per gun". The FFL said that it was kinda late(6pm) so for me to pick up the guns on the 11th day because he isn't going to do the background check until the next day. I just grinned and gave him a $100 dollar bill. We left the store and the seller apologized because he didn't know that the FFL charged $50 per transfer so he gave me $20 because he felt bad. Well, tomorrow is my 11th day and after I pick up my toys I'm never ever going to step foot in that store, ever again..

What store was this? None is Sacramento I hope.
I would have walked out and gone to another FFL on another day.Don't let the name fool you... -
What store is this? PPT should only be $35 for one firearm - max. They may charge $10 for each additional firearm.
See FAQ # 13.Comment

That's only for long guns.
What fees can I charge for handling a Private Party Transfer (PPT)?
If the transaction is a PPT, you are restricted to charging no more than $25.00 in State fees described and $10.00 per firearm for conducting the PPT. For example:
1. For a PPT involving one or more handguns, the total allowable fees are $35.00 for the first handgun, and $31.00 for each subsequent handgun.
2. For PPTs involving one or more long guns, the State fees are limited to $25.00 for the whole transaction plus $10.00 dealer fee per firearm transferred.

I thought the fees for PPT's were fixed by state law. I thought $35, which includes DROS, was the present maximum for a PPT. So, seems like $70 for two should have been the max permitted by law.
Did he, by chance, charge you $20 for 2 gun locks? He can do that.
I know an FFL transfer, such as the dealer receiving a handgun from another FFL for you is unregulated as to fees and can run as high as $150.Life Member NRA and 2A Foundation.

About $35/pc sounds about right most anywhere. but I think you're pretty spot on after the $20 from your friend. That was pretty cool of him.
Don't feel too bad, I think there are actually places that charge tax on PPT transfers, if from the store. (can't be sure about the last statement because I've never done PPT at a place that takes tax, just saw this info from time to time when browsing SoCal sellers on GunBroker.com)
Don;t stress about the guy or place because you are getting your toys! My toys also seem to perk me up, and new ones are the best.Comment

Um, yea. They overcharged him which is illegal.
Go back and tell them they made a mistake and you would like a refund. If they refuse then kindly state that you will be contacting the DOJ and reporting them.Comment
