I have a couple of 19s and my pinky is pinched with them. I suprisingly like the 17s ergonomics a lot. The 1911 is for cc.

Glock 17 or 19????

I personally found the G19 to be more controllable than the 17. I have larger hands and found the shorter grip of the 19 to allow my left support hand to slightly wrap under the grip which made it more controllable. The 17 grip just didn't feel right to me. It's too slim for the height. I wish it had the same grip as the 21. Now, a G19 w/ a G17 slide would be a winner.Comment

I have both, and love them both. The G19 does fit my hand a little better, and is easier to conceal.
The G17 I use for IDPA, and I do like the longer sight radius for competition.
I am glad I have both, but if I could only have one, it would be the G19. Just a bit better for all situations.Comment

I have large hands and I started out with the 19. It is a great gun, but it is a little small for me. The finger groves in particular are too close together for me and my pinkie hangs off the grip a bit. It is however the perfect size for my 13 year old son. I just brought home a 17 a few weeks ago and it is perfect for me.
Since CCW is really not an option for 99% of the people in California get the one that fits your hand the best. Or get both, the advantage of Glocks in the same cal is that you have interchangability. When I got the 17 all of my accessories (holster, mag pouch, even mags) for the 19 work with the 17. I saved at least $150-$200 by not having to buy all of that stuff again."Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote."
