19. if CCW is ever in your plan. 17/19 have the same grip angle so they should point the same.

Glock 17 or 19????

I believe the difference is 1/2 a inch give or take 1/8th. I think the full size, 17-22-31 fit my hand better than the 19-23-32. The 9mm, .40 and .357 sig frame and grip size are identical.
You should go handle them again to be sure. If you can conceal carry you might opt. for the smaller frame but I've never tried to see how much easier the compact is to conceal versus the full size.Comment

Good feedback....but perhaps the OP can wait a few more weeks for the Gen4 G19. I have read numerous articles about them and it appears Glock has made some nice improvements. Should hit stores by early May ???
> RTF (textured finish) is better than the first attempt
> beefed up recoil rod/spring
> interchangabel backstraps
> beveled mag well
> larger, ambi mag release
> ambi slide stop lever
> 3 mags included in kit

And a pic of a Gen IV G22: http://www.gunblast.com/images/SHOT2...2/DSC09332.JPG
I guess the ? is how long until these babies make it to the Cali approved list.Last edited by dennab; 04-01-2010, 2:16 AM.Comment

They won't be, because of the internal changes.Good feedback....but perhaps the OP can wait a few more weeks for the Gen4 G19. I have read numerous articles about them and it appears Glock has made some nice improvements. Should hit stores by early May ???

OP- Sorry I am late to your thread. But here is my take-
The G17 for home defense. The G19 for travel and teaching new people how to shoot.
I LOVE my Glock19 for all around purposes. It is my travel gun and back up to my SIG P226. I also love my G17, but I can grip the SIG better and no not like finger grooves. So the G17 is on loan to a relative for fun.
Yes- I know the G17 and G19 are the same in terms of grip diameter, it just works out better for me this way. But I do have my eyes open for a G19, 2nd gen. just incase.
Add- For what its worth, I do like the RTF (textured finish) alot.
Hope this helps.Last edited by tbhracing; 04-01-2010, 11:29 AM.Comment

Then everyone here in CA should have a 17!
Seriously,
I have a 34 and spent some coin to have a custom 17 upper made consisting of... custom milling to fit a Trijicon RMR. KKM Barrel and some other goodies.JohnComment

depends. 19 better all round. but 17 is the original, and IMO, has a better grip (and I have small hands)WTB:

not getting one over a SIG....the 228 is my dream gun and will most likely be my go to no matter what else i own. I just think i should diversify my guns and let the austrians in on the fun too.
I'd like to find someone local with both who wouldn't mind letting me shoot them rather than spending the range fees to see if i do or don't like the guns (I've held them but never shot them). either way I'll be holding off on the purchase for a while....just wanted to get a good feel for the pro's and con's of each while i'm still looking. thanks everyone

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

I went with the 19 just picked it up today, feels good going from the 26 that I got back in 99. I guess would have went XD cept I have pre ban 19 mags. To me the 17 is wasted space in CA.The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.Comment
