    Glock 17 or 19????

Thinking about adding one of those plastic guns to my arsenal, just because. I've held a few at a gun store before and honestly can't remember which one felt better in my hands, but I know that i prefered either the 17 or the 19 to the others (they had about 5 or 6 models, can't remember which ones but they didn't "fit" so they aren't even an option) and i think both may have fit my hands well. I know the 19 is just a smaller version of the 17 making it better for CCW, but how hard is the 17 to CCW? Is it really too big? didn't seem like it to me, but then again i wasn't trying to CCW at the time.....

So the question for all you Glock Guys and Gals is: Which do you prefer, the Glock 17 or the Glock 19? and why?

NOTE: Please answer the question before you throw out another model. I'm fine with other suggestions as long as you provide info as to why i should consider them, but answer the original question before you throw a sales pitch please!!!!

Honestly the G19 fits me and most people better. The smaller grip seems to offer a nice fit for most hands. I own a G17 but I bought it because I wanted the highest round count I could get and the original Glack design (large frame 9mm). It was my first gun and what the hell did I know about how a gun should feel. Anyway, I'm happy with my G17. I shoot it well and it feels fine.

In this case, the G19. It is the ultimate size for concealed carry. Not only is the grip smaller, the finger grooves are spaced closer which makes it more comfortable to hold (for me). You're only giving up sight radius, which is a fair trade-off for all the advantages you gain.

I bought a 2nd gen G19, the size always bugged me, it looked downright dainty in a open carry holster IMO. I sold it, bought a 3rd gen G17 and never looked back.

The 3rd G17 w/ Houge grip fits my hand like like glove.

        YMMV

ya the G19 usually fits peoples hands better than the 17 but both are great guns.

I like the feel of the G19 better. However, I do not own either. I have only shot them.
            Good luck.

I'd say go for the 19. It's a beautiful fit and the perfect size for carrying.

I've read that the grip on a 19 is actually larger than a 17. Can anybody confirm?

As for CCW: very large pistols can be CCW'd as long as you carry it in the right holster and wear appropriate clothing. You have to be REALLY small before your options start to become limited.

That being said, I'd go with the 17 because of the longer barrel and sight radius.

Unless you have pre-ban mags, the 17 is a waste IMO. I don't believe that most people would shoot the 17 better because of the larger size. Plus the 19 is one of the best pistols of all time IMO.
                  Here's a good video:

Both shot well and felt good to me. I ultimately picked the G19 mainly because my wife was able to handle & shoot that one better than the G17.

I actually have a couple of pre-ban G17 mags from my old Gen2 I used to have back in 97. I picked up some 17/19 spacer sleeves and the G17 mags fit perfectly on the G19, and give it that extra extension for my bigger hands (similar to the G17 grip length). I can now hold 17 rnds in my G19 now .

i can only refute it...who would write such trash?

i have owned both and prefer the G19, besides balancing better in my hands, the arc of the backstrap is different (i think it's higher) and it secures it in my hand better

If you can only have one, get the 19. Both would be much better though...

Well, you can't confirm or refute unless you actually measure it now can you?

I ld get a 19 b/c I don't feel the shorter barrell hurts and I like how the g17 mags are interchangable for hi cap or full size grip

You'll find that the grip of the G19 is a bit different from the G17. Not only is it a little shorter vertically, but there's something about it that makes it sit different in my hand. Something about the shape of the backstrap or something makes it sit differently. Definitely spend some time playing with both to see which fits your hand better. For me it's the G17.
