IIRC, when I was testing out both the G17 and G19 at the range about a month ago, it felt like the G17 had a smaller diameter and felt more 'round' shaped when holding it. Where as the G19 felt skinnier on the sides but longer from front to back, so it fit in my palm better. Kind of hard to explain without any pictures, but the ergonomics of the G19 grip felt better than the G17 (the G17 still felt good for me, just not as much as the G19). The thing I did like about the G17 was that the grip was longer for my bigger hands, so using the G17 mag with spacer sleeve in the G19 works perfectly for me. I'll take a pic of it later tonight to show what I mean.

Come on now, seriously; the G19 and G17 frames are identical except for the fact that the G19 dust cover is slightly shorter and the grip is not as long as the G17 (holds less rounds). Otherwise, they are exactly the same in all other dimensions and contours. How do I know this? Because I own both.
I would get the 19 if the gun was primarily for CCW and deep concealment at that. All other purposes would benefit from the greater weight, longer sight radius and higher capacity of the G17. Larger/heavier guns are softer shooting and easier to shoot fast and accurately.sigpic

Unless you are going to carry it concealed, I'd get the 17.
I don't agree with the "don't get the larger gun because you are wasting it." Larger guns are softer to shoot and potentially more accurate in the shooters hands. Why give up the longer barrel and sight radius if you don't have to.
No one in California should buy a G34 in that case. Every other gun game shooter is using it.sigpicComment

Too late...oh well I will post my $0.02 anyway.
In an ideal world, definately the Glock 17. Because that extra real estate on the grip feels much better in the hand and the added barrel length and increased sight picture distance increases accuracy. If you plan on carrying concealed however, hidding the Glock 17 is next to impossible. So be realistic. How often will it be carried concealed? Next to never? Get the Glock 17. All the time? Get the Glock 19 and a Blade-Tech Eclipse Series Holster to help hide the profile while still having the benifits of Kydex - love that combo. Tried all kinds of holsters, and I get the best performance in terms of both concealment, and speed/smoothness of draw with the Blade-Tech Eclipse Holster.
Because the Glock 19 has a smaller grip surface I occassionally get slide bite. It stings but doesn't exactly hurt. It happens about once every two hundred to three hundred rounds when working from a holster from concealment under timed conditions. If you're only going to be shooting from the bench, it probably won't happen since you'll be able to take your time and adjust your grip as many times as needed before firing. Some snobs blame it on inexperience, trust me - that is not the case. Its because the surface area is just a tad too small to be comfortable in most peoples hands. Its just barely big enough. Don't ask me how people shoot the baby Glocks without getting slide bit all the time (if they train from the holster under concealment they most likely do).
Never gotten slide bite on a Glock 17, but then again I've never really put a Glock 17 through the same intense training conditions as I have with my Glock 19. I have to assume the increased surface area prevents it, as I never got slide bite on my M92 which also has a larger grip area and I have put one of those through the paces.
Oh, and good choice on getting a Glock over a Sig (there I go starting trouble with the Sig fans again).Last edited by tacticalcity; 03-31-2010, 3:33 PM.Comment

Just bought a Glock-19 and fits perfect! But... with all things being equal, I would suggest you either shoot and/or handle both firearms and make your determination. Both have their purpose and both are great weapons, but most of all... they are both Glocks
