y the brand myopia? i think you can get much better 1911's for the same money (last time i looked the sig was around $1000) fit and finish on the sig is OK. just make sure you look at some other just for comparison...kimber, springfield ect. in the end if sig still turns you on then jump on it.

oh yeah....yes you do need a 1911, not having one is like a tool box without a screwdriver

As others have said, don't let the takedown procedure turn you off to the 1911 design. After doing it once or twice, you just get used to it, no big deal. It's still not as easy as taking apart a Glock or Sig but it's a pretty negligible issue especially if you have a reliable gun.

I haven't done a complete teardown on my RIA yet, but I've already field stripped it twice... no tools needed (including the barrel bushing).

It's no harder than my XD9.

1911s aren't that hard to take down and reassemble after a couple times. I can pretty much take apart my RIA tactical, minus mainspring housing, using a magazine and the parts of the gun itself.

If you have an interest in hand guns then you need a 1911. For instance, we all have a watch right? A Timex with quartz movement will keep great time at a heck of a cheap price. But, try a Rolex, Patek Philippe, or maybe a TAG Heuer. They all (watches) perform a function, but some brands with their crystal lens, self-winding perpetual movement, all steel cases, elite craftsmanship, and tight manufacturing tolerances make it more that just a watch -- It becomes a time-piece.

The same is true for me in the 1911 style. It is more than a gun as it becomes a "combat weapon" that deserves higher praise and respect. This explaination was problably more than what you bargined for, but, yea some of us are a little particular about the heratige that goes back to 1910. Yea, I realize I wrote 1910 in lieu of 1911.

This is a really good explanation of why we all love and want 1911's. I was trying to come up with a good analogy but you hit the nail on the head.

Minimum compliment of 1911's would be 3: .45. .38 Super, 9mm (one for each hand and a spare)

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

I'm not a poet and I know it .I just feel it is not just a weapon but an experence.History you could own and shoot today in into the future.
The only tool needed for strip/clean is the magizine or a bullet to take off the barrel bushing.
