    dan wesson cc bobtail

    hello,

new to the site and as luck would have it i'm now looking at higher prices for the dan wesson commander classic bobtail.

budget is still around 1100 and don't want to pay the extra 3-400 recent markup.

    any suggestions?

    thanks in advance

Good luck on the markup. Every Joe and his buddy who got one for cheap is now selling it for $1400+

Nothing wrong with that. Nature of the beast. Supply is constricted, demand is high, prices rise.

Martin B. Rettings in Culver City had one Bobtail in stock as of last weekend. The price is within your budget ($1150????) but call them to verify the price & availability.
      Good luck with your search.

Not the same. If you want a bobtail, hold out and keep looking for a good used one. You will not regret it. One sold here last month for $650. Looked a little worn, but a new Hard Hat treatment would take care of that. Keep an eye out. It's worth the wait. I got mine in '06 for $860 and I haven't looked back.

Are you hot for the DW or just the bobtail? Bobtail can be done on pretty much any 1911 and Springfield will do it to one of theirs for about $225.00.

been looking here recently in the marketplace...people here seem to have high prices for the most part...few hundred dollars below cost for used in some cases.

wamphyri13, so you say no comparison on the kimber...strong words...i'll keep looking...got a few feelers out

I was referring to Dan Wesson in general compared to Kimber. I have shot Kimbers and DW's. For the money, look, feel, quality, and bang for the buck, Dan Wesson kicks tail. I would put my Cbob up against my Raptor any day. Custom shop guns are a different league than the standard Kimbers. Even with the shorter barrel, the cbob shoots every bit as well as the Raptor. With a $300+ price difference.

Have you had a chance to actually look at a DW or just internet photos? When you actually get to handle it, you'll see just how much gun you're getting for the price. (pre 2010 price) They are tight, solid, well fit and finished guns. Here's a recent pic of my cbob..

Paid under 800 for mine... in late '06. My favorite carry gun. Shoots about the same as my Les Baer TRSpecial.

Cost on these has gone up so much, but the quality is there. Seriously, COST is right around $1250 now. I was really impressed with the CCO Bobtail, and the new 9mm Guardian Bobtail I saw at SHOT.

                        Chime in

Yes, I too am impressed by the DW CBob.

I kick myself for not picking up one for $800 last year at the Costa Mesa show. It was brand new and everything.

I bought mine from North Carolina. The fit and finish are very well done.

It's few real detractions are: It uses a smaller firing pin and it's finish is easily scratched during holstering (in plastic holsters). Additionally, the hammer notch has a tapered contour so only about half the sear engagement as 'other' 1911's. Strange design but it has a very nice crisp trigger pull (but the stock trigger is loosely fitted).

I just looked at the new DW 1911's line at Shotshow, and the quality is there and the loose trigger problem has been fixed.

even at 1250+ do you guys think the cbob is worth it?

i can see paying the extra if the value is there still at this price, or if they are adding components that are better in the 2010 models

Not worth it to me, but it depends on how bad you want it. They were a bargain at 850. Not at $1300-1400 OTD.

Plenty of other guns to be had for that kind of money. You can pick up a used Baer for that amount. As dfletcher said, you can get any full size converted to a bobtail by a good pistolsmith.
