ive got a tlr-2 on my m&p and i like the laser also. anything to give me an advantage in a fight. (i also practice w/ irons as much as i can incase of failure).

I prefer the TLR-3 over many lights. It's ultra compact, lightweight and damn bright. Love it on my FNP 40

I own a TLR-1 and love it. No, I don't see another light being worth $100+ more than this one. It's very bright and I've had no problems with it. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or buy another if I see the need for a second weapon-mounted light.

For the switch, just use your weak side thumb and forget the tape switch. You'll get the cord snagged on everything.

Streamlight does sell a tape switch upgrade for the TLR-1 and -2, you have to swap out the back plate for it. It'd make a decent HD carbine or shotgun light set up like that.

The TLR-3's on/off opperation is really nice to me. I use my weak side thumb to press down the lever which momentarily turns the light on; great for sweeping and not having to keep it on the entire time, and works perfectly with my grip, I don't need to readjust or do anything weird, it just works perfectly. Or I use my strong side index finger to turn it all the way on; it clicks into place and stays on. It also has the momentary on with a lighter press as well.

Honestly your best bet is to TRY some, get some hands on use in a gun shop, you'll then instantly be able to decide what's right for you and not some BS compromise cause you couldn't try them all and only went ff opinions, everyone's usage differs.

have you noticed how little you can see outside of the area the light illuminates. I do better in the dark.

Think Though How You Will Use It

A weapon light should NOT be your primary light while clearing the house. It's a secondary light. You do NOT want to be sweeping wives, girl friends, kids, roommates, or LEOs investigating a break-in with the muzzle of your weapon. You use a hand held light to search. The weapon light is for those odd times when you need to free up your weak hand to reload etc.

There really isn't any reason for a remote switch. The weapon light is operated by your weak hand and your trigger finger is off the trigger unless you're shooting.

For a light I like the TLR-1 but make sure you get the newer brighter (120 lumen) CL2 version. There are still a few of the older 80 lumen versions in the channel.

Yeah, nobody mentioned the Blackhawk Xyphos either, even though it is designed to fit the popular Serpa holster.

BTW, Springfield Armory site no longer lists the Insight SSL-1; at least, not that I could find.

I have one of our company's RLS units (we own Safariland) and am pretty happy with it. I have a Surefire 6P LED unit attached to the RLS instead of the actual Safariland flashlight though.

The downside to many is that they are looking for a system that stays with the weapon when holstered. I like the fact that I can use the light without the weapon, and quickly clip it to to the weapon if needed.

The X300 is constant on only regardless of which way you pivot but that might be a plus depending on preference.

Nope. The X300 has momentary on capability; you just push forward on either side of the toggle switch.

That's one big reason I prefer the X300 over the TLR series; the switching mechanism is totally ambidextrous so you don't have to remember which way to flip it for momentary and which way to flip it for constant on.
