    Lets talk handgun mounted lights.

Ok so I just picked up my new to me SR9 from a fellow calgunner. Yeah yeah, it's a poopy cheap gun, but it functions flawlessly, was cheap, and is combat accurate. I mainly wanted a 9mm with a rail for things that go bump in the night, and will likely sell it down the road for a CZSP01 when I feel like really splurging on myself. With that being said, I want a light for the gun.

I'm looking at two different light systems: The streamlight TLR-1, and the surefire x300. Any personal experience with either light solutions? Is the surefire x300 *really* worth the 150 over the streamlight? Any advice/personal anecdotes/other light suggestions is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

i own a TLR-1 and TLR-2. i like the TLR-2 since it has laser. i used to dislike laser. now, i love them!! TLR-1 on FN 5.7 and TLR-2 on Glock 29.

if you are patient, you can pick up a TLR-2 used for about 150 bucks.

When using a handgun mounted light consider a remote trigger switch for the light. The surefire has them ($60 extra).

Why remote light switch? Well... you do want to turn the light on and off as you need to and not tie up your trigger finger (Think one handed operation).

Oh yeah, the streamlight has a remote switch capability BUT it's a "glue on" piece from what I recall while the surefire has one that's unique to each firearm and is a bent up piece of metal (To follow the trigger guard shape) that brings te switch to your grip.

FWIW, I have been very happy with my Streamlight TLR-2. I have no experience with Surefire weapon-mounted lights, but after my experience with the TLR-2, I doubt that I would spend the extra $.

ETA: The location of the controls on the TLR-2 will allow manipulation of the switch without tying up your trigger finger.

I have a number of TLR-1s and am very happy with them. 135 lumens is dang bright for a pistol light. I recently used one on a rifle in a night match to hit targets up to 150 yards away, that's pretty bright! If you get one, make sure you get the newer version with the C4 LED and don't pay more than $99 for it. Here's a good place to work with: http://www.ombexpress.com/p_FL229.aspx

If you find you want something smaller, lighter and not quite as bright(super bright isn't always what you want indoors), Streamlight makes a TLR-3, which I think puts out about 80 lumens, which is about what the average Surefire duty light puts out. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=2...T_WEAPON_LIGHT

I prefer the build and ergos of the TLR-1 over the 3, but it is an option for those like myself with reliability problems from the heavier light on .40 cal Glocks.

Nah I saw that and it's just another thing for me to f with. Cool looking as all get out, but I'm doing my best to keep a gun bone stock for once with the KISS method in mind.

That kinda went out the window when I removed the magazine disconnect safety from the ruger, peed on it, and then threw it in the trash late last night.

I might actually be sold on the streamlight, I always heard they were way inferior to the surefire rig. The price can't be beat either.

              I've got the TLR-1. It's a great deal at ~$80 on sale.

Wut duh hayel? It may surprise you that some of us like our SR9s better than our Glock 17s.

Ain't nuthin' wrong with the SR9.

Whoa whoa cowboy. *I* like the gun and it fits my needs perfectly at the moment.

I actually personally prefer it over the glock. I love the slim grip and manual safety myself since I'm used to shooting a 1911. I know a lot of people knock it as being a cheap POS ruger that will be recalled 50 bajillion times before the end of the year and all. To me it's a great gun for the price, a real value.

I'd love to know where you picked one up for $80. I can't find them under $99 anywhere.

Thanks for the head's up. I've seen so many horror-story threads about Botach lately, I didn't know anyone trusts them anymore. Perhaps I should give them a chance.

Are there such animals as pistol lights for that don't attach to a rail? Maybe just to the front of the trigger guard?
