If you are headed up to Mangum in Rancho Cucamonga do your self a favor and try one of the FNP9's, I think they have one to rent. All the other suggestions have been great and are legitimately good choices, but as I said before at this point for the money the FNP9 has a lot going for it. Give it a try and for the money you might be surprised. Not that I think that bass pro shops is the place to go but they have these for $499.00.

I guess if you just need a 9mm target gun. Then get somehting that had a 4"+ barrel and a trigger that can be fired single action. maybe its just my experiance all the Beretta 92FS or M9 are flawless and accurate out to 25+ yard. And its the gun I bring if i'm taking a new shooter (along with my Buckmark .22 and S&W 686) because its easy to shoot well even with my wife's smal hand.Comment

I did not like the 92FS that I tried at my local range, but I am thinking of trying it again.
I got a FNP9 as my first 9mm. I like it so far. My next one will be a Sig 226, CZ75, or Glock 17.
Just like others said, get to a range that rents and try a bunch of them.Comment

Minor addition to the suggestions to try them out for feel, grip size, trigger finger position (pad of the tip of the finger should fall naturally on the trigger) --
With a verified EMPTY gun, close your eyes, take the gun from low-ready to firing position, open your eyes, and look at the sight picture. For me, Glocks line up perfectly, Sig P226 and P229 are aimed at the ground (can't even see the front sight), but Sig P2000 is also dead on. Don't recall where the XD was pointing but I hated the feel. YMMV. Take your time. And w.r.t. cost, be aware that in these times, if you shoot regularly, even 9mm, you'll spend at least twice as much a year on ammo as you spend on the gun.

I bought a Ruger SR9 about 6 months ago and have shot about 600 rounds through it with no problems. I paid $450 for it at Discount Guns in San Diego and feel I got a great gun for the money! Good luck!

Love my P89 it was my first 9. My friend liked the Ruger P-series so much he is picking up a P-95 this weekend even though he already has a SIG 229. You cant go wrong with the Ruger for the price.Comment
