    9 mm Recommendations

I am looking for a 9mm. Use will be for target range type shooting (fun only, not competition). I want something that will be reliable and accurate for its intended use. I know the more I spend, typically, the more reliable. Where is a good trade off between quality and price?

I see Turners with Beretta 92fs, Glocks (17 & 19), Ruger SR9, S&W Sigma. Large variance in prices. What recommendations do you have?

    Thanks,

(my 1st post, please be kind

It depends on how much you want to spend......

        $300 range, go with a Ruger P95

$500 range, Glock 17/19 or XD

        $800 range, SIG or HK

the 92f or the glock 17/19 whichever feels better to you...honestly those are perfect guns to be chamber in 9mm and both have some decent accuracy and run around 500 to 600...i had a 19 but sold it a few years ago to get a 17..now i have the 17 and its a little to big for my hands...so make sure whatever one you get fits your hands
          Take it easy

Yah things to consider. If you provide the following answers to the following questions people can narrow down some models to research/check out.

                  1) Price Range
                  2) Revolver or Semi-automatic
                  3) How accurate you want it to be
                  4) You want a hammer or would a striker design be okay
                  5) Do you care about safety features like does it need a safety lever
or would you be cool with a trigger safety?
                  6) Do you care about appearance -- can it be blue or do you want stainless or you want bi-tone
                  7) Do you want to have a front rail to mount a light/laser?
                  8) Do you want to mount a scope on it?

There are a lot of good 9mm's. There are only a few not-so-good.

                    Everyone has their preferences.

Instead of asking for what to choose, why not ask why they choose it? That way you can help tailor your decisions and what you try. Which is to say, NOTHING can outdo your own trials and "feel" testing. While training can overcome a lot, confidence in your firearm is a big help.

I'll give some pros/cons. Keep in mind some things can change with aftermarket accessories, sights (almost always necessary), etc. DA/SA triggers will be much better in SA than a striker-fired (Glock/Steyr/XD) trigger. Striker-fired have the advantage of the same trigger pull every time.

*Glock 17 - excellent, plain, simple. Grip angle and feel can be off for some.
*HK USP - well made, reliable, lots of options depending on version (cocked & locked, DA/SA) in same gun, expensive, blocky shape
*HK P2000 - better ergos than USP, but only in compact
*Steyr M9A1 - in many ways out-glocks the glock, but parts are rarer
*Beretta M9/92FS - good, metal, some potential long-term issues, horrible safety location
*XD - has some features that attempt to out-do glock, but it's a bit bulkier and has a higher axis. Overall very good, though.
*Sig - excellent triggers, better than just about anything else. Expensive, some quality questions of recent. Older, used models can be a bargain.

I'll let others handle the rest, but this gives you an idea of how to make some choices...

                      1) Price Range - UPTO $550.
                      2) Revolver or Semi-automatic
                      3) How accurate you want it to be. GOOD, NOT INTENDED FOR COMPETITION
                      4) You want a hammer or would a striker design be okay - EITHER
                      5) Do you care about safety features like does it need a safety lever
or would you be cool with a trigger safety? EITHER - I DON'T PLAN ON TRANSPORTING WITH AMMO LOADED
                      6) Do you care about appearance -- can it be blue or do you want stainless or you want bi-tone NOT IMPORTANT
                      7) Do you want to have a front rail to mount a light/laser? NOT IMPORTANT
                      8) Do you want to mount a scope on it?NOT IMPORTANT
based on price rang, what is the most reliable, with fairly decent accuracy?

No one ever seems to put into play the FNP9 from FNH. These pistols are relatively inexpensive compared to some of the other offerings and are very reliable and functional. They have changeable back strap to give a person the ability to fit grip to the hand. At $499.00 at bass pro shops its a very good choice. Also the M&P 9 from S&W in a nice choice.

Sig 226! If you decide on a Sig, try to find an older one.

Whatever feels best in the hand and has the controls where you want them to be. Be sure to check out the CZ75B too (should run $475 or so for a base model).

Definitely check out CZ. Excellent ergonomics, built like a tank, great value (price vs. quality). Don't limit your gun search to just Turners. Read these forums, ask for recommended stores in your area, whatever that is.
