Browning Hi Power. One of the best 9mm if not THE best.

(my 1st post, please be kind

        1) Price Range - UPTO $550.
        2) Revolver or Semi-automatic
        3) How accurate you want it to be. GOOD, NOT INTENDED FOR COMPETITION
        4) You want a hammer or would a striker design be okay - EITHER
        5) Do you care about safety features like does it need a safety lever
or would you be cool with a trigger safety? EITHER - I DON'T PLAN ON TRANSPORTING WITH AMMO LOADED
        6) Do you care about appearance -- can it be blue or do you want stainless or you want bi-tone NOT IMPORTANT
        7) Do you want to have a front rail to mount a light/laser? NOT IMPORTANT
        8) Do you want to mount a scope on it?NOT IMPORTANT
        Base on these info:

        Metal Frame:
        CZ 75 or Beretta 92

        Polymer Frame:
Glock 17, XD9, Sig Pro. See which one fit you better
and maybe FNP 9, M&P 9 and Steyr M9A1. They are either higher i price or harder to find.

Look on line....Turner's is over priced. I'd say G17/19, in my opinion it is most reliable....like AK of handguns. Then I'd go Beretta 92......although the Ruger is really nice to shoot and cheap......all 4 models you really can't go wrong. If you go to the Los Angeles Gun Club you can rent and shoot all 4......not to mention lots of other nines, and you can even try a 45.

Take a basic handgun class, rent out all the guns on your list and choose from there.

Fun only 9mm? Why not a 9mm 1911? If you want a double action how about a SiG P226 Stainless or a CZ SP-01 Shadow? These would be fun target guns IMO. The weight of steel would negate most of the recoil and you could shoot for hours (if you have the ammo that is).

I am biased so I will pimp my favs..

I love my Glock 19, simple, safe, ergonomic (for me)

There are many good guns like H&K USPs, Sigs, Berettas, Steryrs, Springfields and another fav Smith & Wesson..
I like simple american steel myself.. Have you considered a Smith & Wesson Steel framed 9mm such as a 5906TSW, 3913, or 5903? I like them alot personally. The M&Ps are good guns as well.

I believe the big 3 in this price range are Glock, XD & M&P. I also have shot and liked the CZ P01.

For myself, I chose the M&P9. Very nice pistol, the best customer service in the industry.

I had bought a LNIB 1992 K-KOTED P226 with marks saying "Made in W. Germany" for $550 shipped off of gunbroker. Just look around and you will find great deals.

Beretta 92FS is good starter into 9mm!

it's metal framed, it has an external safety (which i personally like), accurate enough (i was able to hit a metal target around 50 yds away), and it's also good enough for the miltary, so it's good enough for me.

I don't think that guns get more reliable the more money you spend. You can spend half or 1/3 the price on a Glock and have it be easily more reliable than other $1k+ guns.

That being said, I would recommend a Glock or XD. It could then also double as a very reliable and sensible home defense weapon. You can't go wrong. If you don't like the trigger, get it modified.
