VP9 Question

A lot of the problem is finding accessories to support what you want. Especially holsters. Unfortunately thats where glock is king. Holsters galore for their base models. This morning was the first time I gave HK VP9 a workout. One of my colleagues just bought one and let me try it out. Very impressed with that gun. It's a newer, optic ready version
Question. How come VP9 gets much less attention in both LE and civilian circles? My ONLY guess is the magazine release. (?)Just a libertarian guy in a Leftist Authoritarian state.

I have a USPc, P30 and an HK45... all three fit it same Serpa CQC holster (but they don't all fit same IWB holsters)... I have several Serpa holsters - they all fit the same...
I don't have a VP9, but I'm pretty sure it's similar enough to P30 that most (if not all) holster than work for P30 will work for VP9

How do you not have a VP40 in the land of freedom?! I wish I would've picked one up when I got my hands on my VP9..or knowing what I know and have now I would've opted for the VP40.I have a USPc, P30 and an HK45... all three fit it same Serpa CQC holster (but they don't all fit same IWB holsters)... My cousin used to carry an HK45 as his duty weapon. That thing is a tank.Comment

It's crazy how lightweight and low recoil it is though, especially for a full size gun... super comfortable to shoot, but kinda different feeling with the spring buffer (the 'sproing' sound/feel is weird at first)... it shoots way different from the other 45s I have (full size M&P, Shield, and SAR K2) ... I might get a compact version of the HK45, hoping it shoots similar.
As to the VP9 or 40, I never had a desire for than gun... I have been contemplating a P2000 though (but it seems like it would be very similar to the USPc)... I prefer hammer fired over striker (even though I have a bunch of M&Ps and like them all)
If I get another HK, it will likely be another P30 in 40 (mine is 9) or a P2000 in 40 or another HK45 in compact (in that order)... and for the record, I'm not against 9mm, but I've got plenty already.
Why do so many favor VP over P30?"Kamala is a radical leftist lunatic" ~ Donald J. TrumpComment

For the record I do not like serpa holsters. I was just saying everyone makes glock holsters. I do note you have a Sar k2. Hidden gem in the 45 category. May be I?m not understanding what you are saying. Are you calling the VP9 a Glock 17? I have a VP9 and it is no Glock. I?ve had a 3 glocks and sold them all. Will probably never buy one again.I've wanted one for years. But I can't make myself pay the California Tax for what would essentially be a nicer G17 with an H&K logo on it. I already have a G17 and I know they're not identical but fairly close conceptually.
If I lived in America and could get one for their normal selling price, I'd buy one in a hot minute. But for $1,300 to $2,000? Nah.
Sometimes I start thinking I don?t like my VP9 and I want to sell it, but then I take it to the range and I remember why I haven?t. The gun feels awesome in my hand and it is so dang accurate. Honestly, I do hate the mag release button. I would never want to be in a gun fight and have to reload in the middle of the fight with that mag release button. I would say that the bad thing about this gun.
For a range toy, this is awesome.sigpic PM 4 Front Sight diamond

The answer to your question above is also above is all I can think of...striker vs DA/SA. Striker is what I prefer as well. Don't own a thing that's DA/SA.
I too would like to get something from the MP 2.0 lineup but I'm not willing to pay extra here in CA. Both the MP's and my VP9 feel so much better in the hands vs anything Glock. While the HKs are much more comfortable in the hand, I'm not gonna shell out the extra cash for one. Same for a Sig. They just don't feel good in my hands. Which is probably a good thing so I'm not tempted to shell out extra cash for anything made by them.
I'd rather get two pistols for the price of one HK. Yes I realize the two aren't the same..but I'd rather have more toys overall...and more to leave behind for my kids when I'm gone.Comment

Not exactly. But conceptually and practically, both are full sized, German/Austrian, polymer, strike-fired 9mm pistols. I'm sure the H&K is a bit nicer to shoot than the G17, but in the grand scheme of things, to me, they are conceptually the same. Notice how I didn't say they ARE the same, but in my lineup, they would be pretty similar. I have a G17, it's fine. Not my favorite pistol but a good one to have and it's on my CCW so I occasionally carry it. A VP9 would be nice to have but in the grand scheme, I have already filled that role.
I prefer to not have too much redundancy in my safe. Instead of a VP9, I'd rather have a Ruger PC Carbine Backpacker because I don't have a PCC and I like the idea of a takedown, fun to shoot carbine in 9mm that takes Glock mags. Or a new long range precision rifle. I'm not wealthy and only have a limited amount of gun funds and time to devote to shooting so having variety in a lot of different categories of guns is more fun because they are each their own thing.
I've never understood the thought process of those who have ten of conceptually what are the same or very similar guns. Like, "I have ten 1911s, a Kimber, 3 Springfields, a Nighthawk, 3 Colts and 2 Dan Wessons." That would get extremely boring for me, but to each their own. I don't judge, if they're guns, it's all good.Last edited by Capybara; 04-21-2023, 12:27 PM.NRA Certified Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor, Shotgun Instructor and Range Safety Officer

yep the SAR is a great gun - but it IS a beast!
The HK45 and SAR K2 45 are both nice shooters... and similar size... but very different feeling (especially shooting)...
I really like 'em both - and it's a little hard to favor one over the other - but I'd keep the HK over the SAR if I had to (which I don't so it's moot
)
I love Serpa holsters btw - been using 'em for years and very aware of (some) people's dislike of them and why... I've never had an issue and have several of them.
I carry IWB though - so for daily, the Serpa doesn't matter."Kamala is a radical leftist lunatic" ~ Donald J. TrumpComment

the 'Match' version has the more traditional mag release... I suspect they will start offering more guns in that configuration, as may don't like the paddle...May be I?m not understanding what you are saying. Are you calling the VP9 a Glock 17? MP 2.0 is a nice gun... I got a compact in 40 recently, I love it... I'm a big fan of M&P line... you'll love the 2.0 when you get itThe answer to your question above is also above is all I can think of...striker vs DA/SA. Striker is what I prefer as well. Don't own a thing that's DA/SA.

sar k2 has a better capacity and I prefer metal frames over polymer. I wouldn't say no to and fnx45 tactical either though. Maybe when I escape. My only gripe about the K2 is finding magazines. I remember there are para mags that work but the slide lock stops working.yep the SAR is a great gun - but it IS a beast!

Sights too...
But I recently installed a Mepro FT bullseye sight (the M&P version) and am super happy with it... took some filing/fitting and shimmed the back side for proper poa to poi elevation - but it looks totally normal as if made for the gun...
Did the same thing for S&W CSX ( also minimal sight optiins)... I really like the things https://www.meprolight.com/product/mepro-ft-bullseye/
As for mags - I only use the K2 for HD (one of many)... I'm fine with the two 14 rounders that came with it."Kamala is a radical leftist lunatic" ~ Donald J. TrumpComment
